ladyofleithian: (rey wtf)
I saw The Rise of Skywalker in theaters, and even though there were some good ideas in there, there were also some ideas that just seemed to be on. Crack.

Spoilers under cut. And I swear this isn’t some crackfic I read; this is all 100% from the movie. )

So it’s a weird case. Honestly, the Sequel Trilogy started out with really strong promise in Episode Seven. We had great characters, strong emotional moments...true, maybe the plot wasn’t the most original in the world, but it didn’t matter. We had great mysteries too — what happened to Kylo? What happened to Rey? Who is Snoke? Et cetera. And then the middle and end just fell apart. There were great ideas in TROS, but there were also a lot of bad ones that no one sat JJ down for and said, “Boss, lay off the crack.”

I’m actually proposing something that may get me ridiculed, but I don’t care: I’m rewriting the Sequel Trilogy. Even if nobody wants to read it, even if people think I’m a fool for trying. The Sequel Trilogy could have been truly the trilogy — after the disaster that was the old post-ROTJ EU, and the TOR MMO deciding to shit on Revan and the Exile — that saved Star Wars. Even if nobody cares what I have to write or say (which may be the case on AO3; writing a rare pairing does that to you), at least I’ll be trying. I hope.

...and it’s honestly a mixed bag.

Warning for spoilers and potentially triggering content.  )

So overall? Rent this one. Seriously.

Just got out of Halloween 2018, and while the ending was epic, the stuff before that was pretty disappointing.

Here there be potentially triggering content and spoilers.  )

So yeah, overall? It’s a lopsided movie. There are good elements in it, but the bad elements really drag it down. I recommend a rental, but I wouldn’t call it the “true sequel” to the original Halloween. I dunno. Maybe my expectations were too high.
ladyofleithian: (Default)
...and it was much, much better than I expected it would be. (There, I said it!)

A long time ago, in a spoiler far far away... )

So overall? I liked it. I recommend you see it.
ladyofleithian: (come into the light)
...and it’s pretty lopsided. I dunno. Maybe I’m a Grumpy Jane (to paraphrase the Rock Critic’s “grumpy Gus”) but...I dunno.

A long time ago in a galaxy far far a — spoilers! )

So overall? I feel bad saying all this stuff about the movie because I was so excited to see it, but...rent this one, guys. Rent it. Maybe I’ll change my mind on a second viewing, but...rent it.
ladyofleithian: (Default)
...and...I admit that I have mixed feelings.

The man in black fled across the desert and the Gunslinger -- SPOILERS! )

So I guess overall, it's a very flawed movie, but it's nowhere near the abomination that critics and Stephen King fans are making it out to be. It's got some good acting from Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey (despite my complaints about how he was written). Honestly, I think it would have worked better if they had adapted The Gunslinger (as best as the Gunslinger can be adapted, of course) first and then the other books before they made their own fan continuation of it. But it's not a terrible movie. It definitely deserves a higher score on Rotten Tomatoes than it got.

So...thoughts? Comments? What did other Stephen King fans think of it?
ladyofleithian: (darkpilot: happy ben)
I did, and it was amazing! I loved it!

Beauty and the -- SPOILERS! )

So overall? Go watch it! Seriously, it's amazing.
ladyofleithian: (Default)
...and it was...something, it really was.

Warning for discussion of triggering content involving child abuse. )

So, overall...it was all right, I guess. My opinion might change on this, might not, but in the meantime...eh. It was all right.
ladyofleithian: (Default)
...and it got off to a rough start at first, but in the end, it was really good.

A long time ago in a galaxy far far a -- SPOILERS! )

So overall? I say go see it. It gets a bit rough after the beginning, but gets spectacular by the end.
ladyofleithian: (Default)
And it was decent enough. I liked it.

Newt Scamander and the Dozens of Spoilers. (That wasn't a very witty cut title, sorry) )

So overall? Pretty good movie. I recommend it.
ladyofleithian: (Long since I had hope...)
Had the same friend I mentioned in my Star Trek VI review over. We had fun. We talked TFA (which was cool), and watched some Danger Committee stuff (it's a juggling show, very funny) and MST3K, which was awesome. And later on discussed bad movie stereotypes (usually the types that showed up in every bad movie, e.g. the jerk, etc.).

The downside was that we watched Star Trek: Nemesis, as Insurrection was misplaced for the moment. How was it? Well, I'll talk about it more under the cut.

Warning for triggering content involving rape. )

So overall? Skip it. Maybe go and find some fan edits of Nemesis instead. Maybe some will disagree with me about certain points I raised in my post, but that's really my take on things.
ladyofleithian: (Default)
...and it was a great movie!

To boldly go where no one has gone be -- SPOILERS! )

So overall? Awesome movie. Definitely recommended.
ladyofleithian: (Default)
...and this is going to sound crazy, and justifiably so, but honestly? It was better than I thought it was going to be.

To boldly go where no one has gone be -- SPOILERS! )

So, honestly? It does have its share of problems, but it really isn't as bad as I thought it would be.

So yesterday was a good day. Invited a friend over, we hung out, talked, watched Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (let's just say my talk with him about it, and his dad talking about it, fueled his curiosity). Let's say we had a great time riffing on it, and his reactions were pretty much gold. Seriously, gold. (He pretty much thought the same thing as I did -- not an abomination, but not great either. And he liked Sybok well enough, as did I)

We watched The Undiscovered Country afterwards; we had to pause briefly because there was a storm outside and my friend got nervous about it, but fortunately, the storm cleared up later on. It was a movie that I was already intending to watch, but never quite finished before. But I did yesterday -- and I should apologize for not completing it yesterday; let's say I was pretty tired, worried about school, etc. But like I said, I finished it yesterday. How was it? Well, it started off rough but got really good by the end.

To boldly go where no man has gone be -- SPOILERS! )

So overall? I recommend it. It's not my favorite Nicholas Meyer Star Trek film (that would be Wrath of Khan ) but it's still really good.
ladyofleithian: (Default)
...and it was pretty decent.

To boldly go where no one has gone be -- SPOILERS! )

So overall? It's an enjoyable movie; I recommend you give it a watch. I think I would mostly flesh out the villain some more/make him make sense, but by and large, it's pretty enjoyable. It's a good watch.
ladyofleithian: (Default)
Hey. Mostly getting back to catching up on my Star Trek stuff as I'm preparing on seeing BEYOND at one point. (Thinking of going with a friend) I decided to start by catching up on the movies -- trying THE FINAL FRONTIER first. (Insert cries of "Why, why would you do that to yourself" here)

How was it? Well, it was a pretty interesting experience. I have a lot to talk about. Also, a warning beforehand, besides discussing spoilers, I may also be touching on some content that's rather triggering/disturbing later on. So, be careful.

To boldly go where no man has gone be -- SPOILERS! )

And that's my take on The Final Frontier. Should get to Undiscovered Country soon enough. And Beyond -- mostly have to schedule a good date to see it, but I definitely expect to enjoy it when I see it.
ladyofleithian: (Default)
...and it was excellent! Really cute! Loved it.

Just keep swimming, just keep -- spoilers! )

So overall? Go see it; it's wonderful! Definitely recommended.
ladyofleithian: (Default)
It was okay.

It's the bare necessities of -- spoilers! )

So overall? Definitely give it a go. Mostly for Elba and the others, Mowgli being a badass, and the awesome score. And the great ending.
ladyofleithian: (Default)
...and well...wow. Really good movie, but really fucking intense and disturbing.

Warning for spoilers and possible gory discussion. )

So overall? It's definitely worth a view. Fair warning, though -- it's pretty depressing.
ladyofleithian: (Default)
...and it was good! Really good, actually. I enjoyed it.

A long time ago in a galaxy far far a -- spoilers! )

So overall? Go see it! Trust me, it's amazing.
