THIS

and this

The top link is the most important, as it will tell you what you need to know about present and pending laws that could block you from voting if you don't have the right documents, what the new early voting periods are in some states, what the new requirements are in some states for early or absentee voting, and so on.

Even if you don't live in those states, check that top link. Similar bills might pop up in your state or territory next year. And an alarming number of voters--the majority of them black, Latino, elderly, physically and/or mentally disabled, and/or poor--may not be able to vote in this election.

Also, whatever state or territory that you live in--CHECK WITH YOUR TOWN OR CITY HALL to find out where you're supposed to vote this year. The districts may have been altered, thanks to population shift, and as a result, the voting places have changed as well...possibly not for the better. My district has switched the voting place from a school (which is understandable, given the massive renovations going on over there) to a nursing home with a driveway so narrow that the Dial-A-Ride van drivers have to fight to avoid scraping the wall. There's also nowhere to park and nowhere to turn around. I know all this because I've been on the van when the drivers have had to pick people up there.

You can imagine how well this is going to work on Election Day, can't you?

So try to be ready so that you can avoid any unpleasant surprises on November 6.

Spreading Romney has gotten off of the front page of Google.  Whatever your feelings on Dan Savage, the reason behind him starting this site is a just one - Mitt Romney shared this story about strapping his dog to the roof of his car as a way to "connect with the common man."

I don't want an animal abuser in the White House, how about you?  Anyone who is that cavalier about abusing animals won't give a crap about abusing humans, either.

Please share this far and wide.  Thank you for your support.

Dear UK Flisters,

I know I'm preaching to the choir with you guys when it comes to LGBT equality, but believing something is fair and actually getting off your bum and doing something about it doesn't always follow like it should. So here's a little (and slightly preachy) reminder!!

Three things I'd like you all to do before you go to bed tonight (if you haven't already)

1/ Go here and sign the C4EM's petition for marriage equality. This is the simplest and probably most visible way to show your support. It currently has 60,000 signatures -- the petition against (by C4M) has over 500,000!!!

2/ Go here and fill out the government's consultation. It might take a little bit longer, but you can bet that for every pro-person who doesn't find the time, there will be dozens of 'anti' people who will.

3/ Email your MP. There's a handy template there for you to use so you don't even have to think of what to say. Also, you can go here to see where your MP stands on the issue. A hugely important thing to do because the majority of MPs will be voting with their conscience rather than following the party line, so make sure you let yours know your feelings.

4/ Okay, so I lied. There's actually a fourth thing. And that is simply spread the word. The consultation ends in two day - it's our last chance to get as many people mobilised as possible. So tweet it, Facebook, blog it, beat your friends and family around the head with it until they give in!!! And if you want to repost to your own journal (and please feel free to edit), here's an ever-so helpful button

This is for all the Buffy and Harry Potter authors on my friends list. The original post talks about Buffy and Doctor Who, but when I followed the link, I saw that Harry Potter fandom is affected as well. I don't personally use fanfiction.net, but I know that some of you do.

Just a heads-up about fanfiction.net for those who might be interested.

http://ffdotnetrants.livejournal.com/134901.html

If these numbers are correct, fanfiction.net just deleted roughly 12% of all Buffy and Doctor Who fic on there with no warning, no chance for writers to correct the perceived problems, and with temporary bans for those who get their stories deleted. Going by some comments I've seen, most have been removed either for using non-grade-school-friendly words in their summaries or for including "love scenes" that aren't considered "tasteful" (their words), but that's not the only thing they go by; one fic was apparently removed for including the word "killed" in its summary. One or two people have reported having their stories reinstated after mailing support, others have gotten rude replies that basically boil down to "RTFM, STFU." Personally I haven't gotten any reply at all after three days.

It might also be interesting to note that ff.net have blocked the possibility to export fics to AO3.

If you want to back up your ff.net stories and reviews, Storymaster seems to work pretty well.

...based off my previous post about the congregation that encouraged a toddler to sing homophobic "hymns" during services, I am issuing a call to arms. Or rather, to wallets.

That "church" is located in Greensburg, Indiana. You know who else lived in Greensburg? A young man named Billy Lucas.

Billy Lucas may or may not have been gay, but he was bullied with gay epithets, among others, to the point where he took his own life. It was his suicide along with a rash of others (Asher Brown, Tyler Clementi, too many to list) that inspired Dan Savage and his husband to create the It Gets Better project.

So, my friends.

If you have a spare five bucks on your credit card, or more, it doesn't matter, please take a minute today and donate to Indiana Equality.

On the form, put in memory of Billy Lucas.

Put in honor of Pastor Jeff Sangl and his email address pastorsangl@apostolictruthtabernacle.net , and include the address of the "church" so they get notified by mail:

Apostolic Truth Tabernacle
1114 W. Westridge Pkwy.
Greensburg, IN 47240

I didn't come up with the idea, a commenter on Joe.My.God did, but it bears merit.

And please boost the signal.
