1. Elastigirl from The Incredibles. Seriously, one of the most kickass moms ever.

2. Violet from The Incredibles. She's just a great character.

3. Black Widow, especially in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

4. The Powerpuff Girls. Yeah, I know, but they were pretty kickass characters.

5. Gamora from Guardians of the Galaxy.

Top Five Queens/Empresses/Royalty

From: [identity profile] ladyhadhafang.livejournal.com
1. Princess Leia.

2. Elsa from Frozen.

3. Padme Amidala.

4. Queen Talia from KOTOR II. Yeah, kind of a minor character, but she was a great one.

5. Arwen from Lord of the Rings.
From: [identity profile] ladyhadhafang.livejournal.com
1. Any of the companions from Doctor Who, because I think they would make fantastic traveling companions.

2. Any of the female characters from the KOTOR games, because I think they would be a heck of a lot of fun to go on an adventure with.

3. Princess Leia.

4. Padme.

5. Ariel from The Little Mermaid. I have a feeling that she would be a heck of a lot of fun to go on an adventure with.

Top Five Villains

Date: 2014-10-17 11:02 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ladyhadhafang.livejournal.com
1. Catwoman, Batman Returns. Michelle Pfeiffer was awesome in the role.

2. Kreia from KOTOR II. Because she's just an amazingly complex character.

3. Atris from KOTOR II. Because she's, again, a very complex character.

4. Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty. Maleficent from the recent film is great too, but I don't know if she really counts as a villain. Anti-Villain, maybe.

5. Ursula from The Little Mermaid. Because she is just awesome.

/1. Catwoman, Batman Returns. Michelle Pfeiffer was awesome in the role./

Yeah, I think that even people who don’t like “Batman Returns” have to admit that Pfeiffer knocked it out of the park.

/Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty./

I haven’t seen the Angelina Jolie film version yet, but yes, the original Maleficent is definitely awesome. ^^

/Ursula from The Little Mermaid. Because she is just awesome./

I’m surprised that her human form, Vanessa, isn’t more popular or doesn’t get that much attention.

God, yes. She owned that role.

And heck yes. The original Maleficent definitely made quite the impact on me when I was a kid -- I remember originally seeing the transforming-into-a-dragon scene in the film and going, "Oh, heck yes, this is so awesome!" The new movie takes a lot of liberties with the story (some which bothered me, like the fairies' portrayal) but it's still really entertaining.

And yes, her human form, Vanessa, is great too. I mean, she nearly would have won too if Scuttle and the others hadn't interfered.

Top Five That I Think Deserved Better Endings

Date: 2014-10-17 11:12 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ladyhadhafang.livejournal.com
1. The Jedi Exile/Meetra Surik from KOTOR II. I guess it doesn't help that her arc really left an impression on me ever since I was no more than a middle schooler, but I hated how she was just casually killed off like that in the REVAN novel. I mean, poor girl. And what I read about how the book treated her on Tumblr just makes me angrier. I mean, I'm certain some may not agree, but even hearing about it just broke my heart.

2. Jamie Lloyd from the Halloween franchise. I mean, what a horrible ending to a really great character.

3. Laurie Strode, also from the Halloween franchise. Same with Jamie.

4. Donna Noble. Because it just plain sucked how she was memory-wiped like that. I know it was to save her life, but it still royally sucked.

5. Rose Tyler. Not as bad as the others on the list, but her ending did kind of suck.
From: [identity profile] ladyhadhafang.livejournal.com
I admit that's going to be difficult because I haven't read much romantic stuff lately, or watched it, etc. And most of the bad love interests I've run across usually redeem themselves later. So I'm limiting myself to those who are just "Nope" all around.

1. Ana Steele. Seriously.

2. Nora Gray.

3. Jarael from the KOTOR comics. Especially with Alek and his behavior towards her that is basically sexual harassment. Grabbing her, not listening to her protests, etc.

4. Vestara Khai from Fate of the Jedi.

5. Hermione. Ron's a great character, but I don't think she and him go well together.
From: [identity profile] ladyhadhafang.livejournal.com
1. Ana Steele.

2. Nora Gray.

3. Vestara Khai.

4. Jedi Exile/Meetra Surik (but only in the REVAN novel/The Old Republic MMO. KOTOR II had its issues, mostly relating to it being rushed for a Christmas release, but how it handled her story and character wasn't one of them).

5. Jamie Lloyd. Doesn't help that her story is just heartbreaking all around.
From: [identity profile] arkan2.livejournal.com
3. Fair enough on Alek/Malak - but, erm, then again, he's not Jarael's primary love interest; in fact I never thought of him as a love interest at all.

I'm also interested that you listed Jarael as in need of better writing/developing downthread. I love the KotOR comics, and while there were certainly aspects of the way it depicted Jarael I found off-putting (such as her cameo in the War mini-series), I don't recall finding her presentation horrible - far from it.

Oh, I'd also be interested to know about #6 and #1.
From: [identity profile] ladyhadhafang.livejournal.com
Oh. Well, that's good. I guess I just got upset over stuff I heard, but...well, good to hear. And good to know that Jarael's generally handled well.

As for 1...well, keep in mind that I could be wrong about this, but from some stuff I heard, I sort of thought that Ana's love interest, Christian, wasn't a very good one (to say the least). I mean, it's not really the BDSM subject at all; it's just that he doesn't seem to treat her very well. Sort of...pretty badly, actually. And 6...well, Hermione and Ron aren't as bad as, say, the first example, but I admit that while Ron's a good character, great even, he and Hermione always seemed to be at each others' throats. They do have their moments, of course, but I admit that I never quite shipped them. And I'm not really averse to stuff like that either, but they didn't exactly seem to work together. *Hopes this all made sense*
From: [identity profile] aikaterini.livejournal.com
/3. Laurie Strode, also from the Halloween franchise. Same with Jamie./

Oh, yeah, she [SPOILERS] winds up dead, doesn’t she? I don’t get why writers kill off characters when their actors don’t want to play them anymore. Either get new actors to play the characters (hey, it worked with Michael Gambon for Dumbledore!) or come up with another reason for why that character’s not in the TV show/movie.

/4. Donna Noble. Because it just plain sucked how she was memory-wiped like that. I know it was to save her life, but it still royally sucked./

Oh, yeah, I heard that there was a lot of fan controversy about that.
From: [identity profile] ladyhadhafang.livejournal.com
3. Yeah, pretty much this. Seriously.

4. Yeah, a lot of the fanbase was furious. I still love "Journey's End", but it's this one thing I wish didn't happen. Especially considering Donna's character development (thing about Donna is that she was incredibly well-written: complex and honestly, really funny and caring. And her friendship with the Doctor was written very well *), and how, in the end, she doesn't even get to remember any of what she accomplished and achieved, where she traveled, etc. I mean...yeah, it sucks.

* And I liked her intro episode as well. I know some people didn't like her when she first appeared, but I can understand where she's coming from; I mean, she just got sucked into the TARDIS on her wedding day. I think anyone would be freaked out. And she definitely gets softer moments throughout the episode, like her talk on the rooftop with the Doctor, and the ending. And...yeah, sorry for rambling like that.

Top Five I Wish Had Better Development/Writing

Date: 2014-10-18 12:57 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ladyhadhafang.livejournal.com
1. Vestara Khai. Seriously, poor girl deserved a hell of a lot better than what she got.

2. Ana Steele from Fifty Shades of Gray. I mostly heard about it via the recaps on das_sporking, but let's say that yeah...she needed a lot better development and writing than what she got.

3. Nora Gray from Hush Hush. Mostly heard about it via zelda_queen's awesome sporkings of the books, and yeah, she was a major victim of bad writing and development.

4. (This is not going to win me any fans) Rebecca Stone from Demo Reel, mostly regarding the (MAJOR TRIGGER WARNING HERE) molestation backstory that just comes right the fuck out of nowhere. I'm not opposed to handling difficult subjects like molestation, but the way it was handled here was so clumsy and tasteless. When it comes to something like that, you have to treat it with a certain amount of delicacy, skill, and tact, and this wasn't one of those moments. That and she wasn't exactly a three-dimensional character overall. I mean, she had good action moments, etc., but she didn't really grab me. She felt incredibly flat, and with the tacked on backstory about molestation that was handled so poorly...yeah, she deserved a better writer/at least better handling of her character for this shit. (I know this isn't going to win me any fans in the slightest. I know some are going to disagree. It was just something that was bothering me for a while, so I needed to get it off my chest)

5. Jarael from the KOTOR comics. Even hearing about how poorly the writers handled her...yeah, she definitely deserved better writers.
From: [identity profile] coldthermistor.livejournal.com
Fair enough. I mostly agree with 1. and 5. but that's also largely because I mostly know about 1. and 5., but I can sympathose from how the rest sound.

Thanks!
From: [identity profile] ladyhadhafang.livejournal.com
Both you're welcome and thanks. And yeah, 2-4...I don't think I even scratched the surface of how bad they are. And Jarael and Vestara...if they'd been in the hands of better writers, they could have worked, but yeah, not really, unfortunately.
From: [identity profile] coldthermistor.livejournal.com
You could always give them a shot ;)

I reckon I can vaguely see why 2. is problematic, if only because of all the flack the book's received. Even so...
From: [identity profile] ladyhadhafang.livejournal.com
Maybe. :)

Just out of curiosity, what are your thoughts on the whole 50 Shades thing, at least from what you heard?
From: [identity profile] coldthermistor.livejournal.com
Honestly, no real thoughts because I haven't read it and seldom see things in relation to it. I've heard criticism that they're not really in a safe sort of relationship and that Ana is way too willing to let Grey get away with all sorts of things, but that's about it.
From: [identity profile] ladyhadhafang.livejournal.com
Well, that's definitely good. I haven't read the book necessarily and I could be completely wrong about it, but the few excerpts I read (and the play-by-play analyses) made me go, "Well, this is a whole lot of nope." Especially in terms of, as you mentioned, the unsafe relationship (which, from what I read, is kind of a case of "what not to do" if you're in the BDSM scene). I think das_sporking and a lot of people more expert than me covered most of what's wrong with the book (and its sequels) though.

Oops, sorry, I meant I'd like to get your take on #6 and #1 from the general list, not from the "I wish had better love interests" list.

Top Five I Consider To Be Adorable Dorks

Date: 2014-10-21 01:08 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ladyhadhafang.livejournal.com
Nah, it's okay, I just misread. Anyway...

1. A lot of the female companions from Doctor Who. Yeah, it's cheating, but some stand out moments are when they're taken to new locations. The excitement from them is so contagious that it's almost like you're there with them.

2. Bastila Shan from Knights of the Old Republic. Mostly in stuff like her reaction to the male PC teasing her -- I know some might disagree, but I found teasing her as a male PC quite amusing, especially how flustered she gets. That and even if she may lecture your PC a lot, she has a good reason for it -- *cough*YouweretheformerDarkLordoftheSith *cough* I mean, she's basically trying to look out for you while resisting the temptation of the Dark Side. That and if Mission's dialogue is any indication, Bastila's actually quite young. Not super young, but it's definitely young for a lot of pressure being put on her, mostly thinks to her Battle Meditation -- and she even has some sweet moments when she opens up to you, admits that she's glad you're with her, etc. In a lesser writer's hands, she would have gotten on my nerves quickly, but she's written so well here (and voiced incredibly well) that I care about her. That and redeeming her on the Star Forge, as either PC. I mean, she's really a great, well-rounded character (then again, both games have a lot of these) and deserves more love from the fandom.

3. A lot of Disney female protagonists, but Mulan, Anna and Ariel especially. With Mulan, it's how awkward she is and her attempts to blend in as a man in the army, with Ariel, it's her curiosity and her exploring the human world for the first time, and with Anna, it's...well, just about everything.

4. Quorra from Tron Legacy. Ah, good times watching this film. But yeah, Quorra is fantastic. Her naivetie, her curiosity, her general kickassery and determination...she's just so cool.

5. Brianna from KOTOR II. I think it's her general sheltered, innocent nature, such as her misunderstanding Atton's sarcasm (sadly, this only happens if you're a male PC, unless you have a mod that allows her to join a female PC), and general innocence. Like Bastila, she's also a well-rounded character, what with her unique Echani philosophy, her backstory, her character arc from becoming ridiculed and mocked to being the strongest of all the Handmaidens and eventually taking up Atris' position as historian, etc. Like I said, the KOTOR games are great at these really awesome characters.

Top Five Female Protagonists

Date: 2014-10-21 01:25 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ladyhadhafang.livejournal.com
1. The Jedi Exile from KOTOR II. She's kind, she's determined, she's not afraid to stand up for what she believes in, and in the end, I think she's more Jedi than any of the Council in that game ever were.

2. Laurie Strode from Halloween. Smart, caring, resourceful, brave, and willing to do what she can to protect the kids under her care.

3. Jamie Lloyd from Halloween 4, 5, and 6. I just find her story to be heartbreaking, but she's also resourceful, clever, brave, loyal and honestly, a really well-done kid character. I know I was drawn in by her when I first watched Halloween 5 (yeah, I watched the fifth film before the fourth. Weird choice, but...let's say there was one scene in there I dreaded having to watch) because her actress did a great job at playing her, especially in the long stretch in the film when she can't speak. She manages to say so much without really saying anything. And her performance seemed authentic for someone caught in this horrible situation. I think that's the key to a great character in general: make us care about them, and make their emotions realistic no matter how strange the plot they're in is.

4. Mulan. As a kid, she really did stick with me, with her courage, determination, cleverness, love for her father, and her very human nature. It really was hard to pick just one Disney female protagonist because they have a lot of great ones, but Mulan's one of those that stuck with me. Not just because she can wield a sword (though that's cool. :), but also because of the many layers to her character, and her courage.

5. Fernanda from Tanner Hall. Kind of obscure, I'm thinking -- it's kind of an indie teenage film -- but Fernanda is a great character just because of how fleshed-out she is; she actually feels like a real teenager with all the rough spots that come with it. Rooney Mara does great in the role, just because of how real and likable she feels. She has some great emotional scenes, and really awesome moments, like her telling off one character's mother for her callousness towards her daughter. It's a film worth checking out, though it does probably have some pretty tough subjects in there.

Top Five I Will Love Until The End of Time

Date: 2014-10-28 10:56 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ladyhadhafang.livejournal.com
All right! :D

(Just going to do these out of order if that's okay)

1. The Jedi Exile from KOTOR II. Let's say that she holds a special place in my heart, ever since I played KOTOR II in middle school when I got it for Christmas (it was actually kind of a happy accident because I said to my mom that I wanted one of the KOTOR games but I didn't really specify which one, so I got the second one first. It took a while -- thanks to my computer -- to actually play the first one, and that was on the X-Box). I was just so impressed with her story, her development, her overall arc, and even though the game had a lot of cut content, I still have warm memories of it, and the Exile.

2. Rose Tyler. I love all the companions, really, but Rose is my personal favorite.

3. Arwen and Eowyn. Yeah, I guess it's cheating to put them in the same slot, but their characters are just wonderful and amazing. Arwen's strength and devotion, Eowyn's courage...they're just awesome.

4. Jamie Lloyd and Laurie Strode. I mean, they're just awesome characters.

5. Kreia/Darth Traya from KOTOR II. Yeah, another KOTOR II character. Let's just say that in terms of gaming experience, she was difficult, cryptic, and almost strangely compelling in terms of it, and the unconventional philosophies that she had on the Force. That and she was a very layered character. I heard some compare her to Palpatine, but in a way, she kind of reminds me of Elphaba from Wicked -- someone who didn't exactly have a good lot in life, was driven to villainy (and even her villainy status is kind of in question) via good intentions, bitter and angry but still, in the end, having some good in them (Kreia admitting that in a way, she cared about the Exile, which, first time I saw it, was a genuinely moving scene). Kreia's interesting because she's a character I didn't really expect to like, but once I played the game, she grew to be one of my favorites (even if I didn't entirely get her first time I played, being a middle-schooler at the time. Now that I'm older, I can understand her better).

I still haven't played much KOTOR II. Matt has but, he enjoyed it :) I should check it out!
Hee, putting Arwen & Eowyn together isn't cheating. They're both such incredible characters. This is way off topic, but I just watched a youtube vid recently that was an Arwen/Legolas ship and at the end it implies that Aragorn/Eowyn end up together, which is not my favourite shipping but it was a super pretty vid lol.
Okay, I really need to check this game out, you're making me want to play it! :)

1. Kaylee Frye. Because she's a complete and utter sweetheart, and would be a lot of fun to have as a friend.

2. Donna Noble. Because I think she wins in terms of being "one of the best friends anyone could have". And I love her relationship with the Doctor.

3. Rose Tyler. Because like Kaylee, she's a sweetheart.

4. Martha Jones from Doctor Who. Because she's awesome, incredibly sweet, loyal, brave, and I think she would
make a wonderful friend.

5. Eowyn and Arwen. Because they're very cool.
