Mostly thanks to reading zel's post on Lord of the Rings. I just can't help but imagine myself sitting down, watching the movies, and being thoroughly enthralled the whole time. ^__^
Boromir consoling Frodo after Gandalf's fall in Moria
Seen where: FOTR Extended Edition.
If Extended, Why Was It Cut?: Mostly for pacing reasons, according to the Director/Writer's commentary. It's part of a larger scene where it takes quite a while to get into Lothlorien (thanks to the elves being worried about the evil Frodo carries).
Why It Should Have Been Kept: Well, first, for plot complications. Second, to show the turmoil that Frodo goes through (he misconstrues the glances of the Fellowship his way as them turning against him -- which is what he sees in the Mirror of Galadriel, showing that the Fellowship may be breaking...a bit of manipulation on Galadriel's part?) after Gandalf's fall, especially his guilt -- since his decision basically led to the series of events that caused Gandalf's fall holding off the Balrog. But the final thing is this: Frodo's sitting alone, kind of like Violet in THE INCREDIBLES after her failure to generate a strong enough shield to protect the plane she and her family were on (they survived, fortunately. /spoilers):

...only for Boromir to approach and comfort him:

BOROMIR: Gandalf's death was not in vain. Nor would he have you give up hope. You carry a heavy burden, Frodo. Don't carry the weight of the dead.
Doubly heartwarming considering (a) I kind of thought movie!Boromir was a bit of a dick at the beginning and (b) he was one of the people most opposed to Frodo taking the Ring to Mordor -- if for understandable reasons. In his way, he cares about Frodo.
Which makes the ultimate outcome at Amon Hen even more tragic, IMHO.
Thoughts? :)
