Day 27 - A pairing that you loved and ended up hating?

I wouldn't say I exactly loved it in the first place, but when I first heard about Ben Skywalker/Vestara, I thought, "This has the potential to be really interesting!" I mean, a Jedi and a Sith falling for each other -- I'd seen it before, but usually after said Sith was turned to the Light Side or said Jedi was turned to the Dark Side. The idea that they could fall for each other while keeping their alignments intact...that's fascinating, it really is. Amazingly fascinating, actually. And then unfortunately, we came to The Scene where Ben basically physically assaults Vestara after invading her privacy, then ties her up with the Force (without her consent) while he reads her letters she's using to cope with the aftermath of her father's death. I mean, first off, there's the obvious assault-portrayed-as-romantic bullshit (and what is it with some writers and thinking that romance has to be abusive in at least some form? Fifty Shades, Hush Hush, The Courtship of Princess Leia, the 1981 version of Endless Love...and I'm sure there's more), second off, there's the fact Ben is, all the while, supposed to be the good guy in this story (and Luke even praises what a good Jedi he is. Granted, he probably didn't know about what Ben did, but still), third off, there's the fact Ben could have reached through the Force or installed a camera or surveillance stuff to make sure Vestara wasn't doing anything if he was that worried (okay, maybe that isn't much better, but still, it's a step up from assault and invasion of privacy), fourth off, Vestara was in a very vulnerable position, having lost her father and having mixed feelings about him -- knowing who he really is but also missing him and having to likely come to grips with the fact that Papa didn't take care of his little girl, and fifth off, this is supposed to be the beginning of a romance as opposed to the end of it as well as the beginning of a Heel Face Turn for Vestara, which thankfully does not happen. * So yeah, to hell with that pairing.

* And of course Luke basically goes Kylo-Ren-before-Kylo-was-created on Vestara when he sees her in the hangar in Crucible. More specifically, he has a mental reaction that can be best summed up as this:

Except here, Luke's treated as the hero. The First Order's black and white mentality is supposed to be part of what makes them so terrifying, but here...it was supposed to be part of what made Luke heroic. Yeah...
