Day 21 - A pairing you like and no one else understands why?

Sion/Kreia. I think it would, at minimum, be interesting -- I have a bit of a headcanon that Sion had some degree of feelings (by his estimation, which is rather twisted) for Kreia before she basically put him through hell. And some remnants even there considering how, in Kreia's flashback, he doesn't kill her, the original story had Kreia taunting Sion to kill her only for Sion to be unable to, and he seems to generally both hate her and crave her approval. Even when he's talking to the female Exile, he says, "You and her are alike, yet different in all the ways that matter, and I hate you as I hate her." (And I have an additional headcanon of Arawn, my Exile, having some issues with the word "beautiful" for a while because it brings up associations with what happened at Malachor. Mostly the duel with Sion -- she didn't feel the same way for him, but she did feel compassion for him, in recognizing the hell from which he came * -- and with Kreia, who she clashed with a lot regarding morality -- my Exile's an idealist to a fault with a bit of a darker streak that can come out under certain circumstances, Kreia's...Kreia. You do the math -- but still cared for. So she kind of cringes a little when she hears it) Considering what he says next, I'm starting to wonder if there was something else there. Maybe I'm reaching, of course, but it's possible. Sion already has a psychologically torturous and damaging love-hate relationship with Kreia, and those bits kind of make me wonder if there was something neither of them was telling us. Like I said, could be reaching.

Also, male Revan/Malak. I dunno; I don't see many fans of this ship and I think it has potential to be interesting. (The fact that in a script adaptation I was doing for KOTOR I ended up having Malak come off as...a bit obsessed with Gann/Revan probably contributes) I see a lot of female Revan/Malak, but not male Revan/Malak. *Shrugs* It could be interesting.

Day 22 - A pairing you hate and no one else understands why?

I don't know, really. I'd probably say Jaina/Jag, Jaina/Zekk and Jaina/Kyp. (Three pairings, cheating, I know.) I just hate how the authors basically reduced Jaina to a bit of a love triangle (though I think Jaina/Kyp is mostly fanon). Say what you will about Rey and Carol Marcus, but Abrams pretty much focused on "character first, pairings in the background". In TFA, Rey had some ship teasing with Finn and Kylo, but it was kept to the background. There were references, like Finn's hand-holding habit and Kylo's rather odd (by his standards) in interrogation and during the duel, but it wasn't made front and center. Rey's own journey, and her wondering when her family would come back, was what really mattered. Abrams focused on her as a person and a character, not on what guy she was going to date. Same with Carol; her relationships with Kirk and McCoy weren't put front and center. They were mostly relegated to the background, and McCoy's awkward attempts to hit on her (and yeah, the bridge crew's you've-got-to-be-kidding reactions, and Kirk of all people saying McCoy's not here to flirt, got me giggling in the theater. Plus, how obvious that McCoy is just...trying too hard) was played for laughs, likely at the idea that McCoy is just, simply, trying way too hard. **

With Jaina, they kind of made it...front and center-ish. Which, nothing wrong with romance, but they shouldn't have made it that prominent especially when it just got irritating after a while.

* And she also wonders if things could have turned out differently and she would have ended up like any member of the Sith Triumvirate. Let's say her dynamic with all three of them is really complicated.

** Come to think of it, I think most of the attempted flirting-by-males scenes are mostly played for laughs at the guys' expense. Just a random thought. Hell, people complained about Kirk being a Casanova in the reboot, but one thing that strikes me looking back is that it's mostly played for laughs because he really sucks at it. See also Gaila and Uhura.
