NaNoWriMo updates

Currently have 2,039 words. *Rubs wrists to relieve them a bit, the poor bastards* So far, I admit that it's been a bit difficult because I have to introduce some new plot elements -- for example, what happened to Asajj after Han basically shot her out of the sky to save Mara's life -- and let's just say that from what I introduced previously, I've got a lot of them. I've got the matter of Mara's training, etc. Which, I will admit, I am pretty excited in terms of writing it because it definitely promises to be pretty fun to write. So far, it's sort of tying up the matter of Asajj and all that's kind of the difficult part, especially considering getting into her head. And I will admit I am more nervous about NaNo than usual considering that school decided to sort of up the ante on the homework front, and I've been a bit out of the EU for a while, plus the matter of the EU being non-canon now kind of killed my buzz a little, and then there's the matter of integrating new information. (For example, did you know that Korriban isn't called Korriban anymore, but Moriband? Which really sucks, because I liked the name Korriban. Korriban has an air of mystery to it and darkness and scares and Sith history, and Moriband...well, it doesn't really have the same ring to it. Maybe I'm just biased and all considering that the KOTOR games are pretty close to my heart, but even putting that aside, I don't get the Moriband name change. But I digress. Sorry; just had to get that off my chest) Still, I will admit that I'm glad to be back here. Considering...some events that transpired this year (not that this year was all bad; I mean, going to London was great, and Halloween was awesome, kind of sad it's over, really), it is pretty good to be back with Mara and the gang.

I wish it didn't sound like 'Mordor meets Korriban.' Urgh. I'm really annoyed with the weird retcons as-is.

Yeah. That and to me, it just sounds like "moribund", which...I guess might be appropriate for a Sith world considering the death connotation, but it doesn't really have the same ring as "Korriban". "Moriband" just sort of sounds like something I would have made up when I was a kid when I was looking for good villain names for my stories.

Maybe I'm just taking this too seriously, but...it's just unnecessary. (Then again, I guess that applies to most retcons, really)

Agreed, and it just doesn't sound right.

Hard to say we're taking this too seriously, when we're fans. I mean, that's what we do, right? :P Overanalyse, write fic, and be very sad when our fandoms change and retcons happen ;)

Yeah, it doesn't. Personally (and I admit I kind of suck at names) I think names should reflect a character, place, etc. without being too on-the-nose about it, and Moriband...one, it's a bit too on-the-nose and two, it doesn't reflect the whole darkness and mystery and general creepy atmosphere of Korriban.

And thanks! I admit I'm mostly trying to juggle my college work as well because let's say it decided to somehow get heavier. Hopefully I'll succeed. And good luck with your papers!

Yeah. But then, I think Lucas is generally a bit none too good at names, sometimes. I'm still just a little ticked off at Stewjon :P

Very true. And God yes, Stewjon -- reminds me a bit too much of Jon Stewart of the Daily Show, I will admit.
