Analysis: why a certain cast member/character is like an animal or creature, with rigorous proof
There are times, really, when Rose is actually kind of wolf-like. It's been referenced in canon before such as in "Tooth and Claw" when the Host carrying the alien spirit that will turn him into a werewolf says that she has something of the wolf about her, and...well, becoming the Bad Wolf in order to save the Doctor. But there are times, really, she does take on wolf-like traits. For example, becoming the Bad Wolf entity. Even not as the Bad Wolf, she resembles one, thanks to her very strong, expressive face.
And then there's personality traits.
For example, wolves form very close relationships and will do anything to protect the family unit. While Rose may occasionally be careless towards those she cares about, she also was more than willing to bawl out Elton for upsetting Jackie in "Love and Monsters", as well as trying to integrate herself into her alt. family's life in "Rise of the Cybermen" and "The Age of Steel", and trying to go back for her alternate universe mother (even after her alternate mother was absolutely cruel to her, Rose still wanted to save her. Because she was still as much her mother as normal verse Jackie was). And then there's all the things she was willing to do if only to keep the Doctor safe. Even crossing parallel worlds to do it. Even absorbing the time vortex. And while there's no howling at the moon involved, she definitely has a way of communicating with the Doctor -- their language, the way they laugh together, things like that. They almost become a single entity by the end of Season Two.
That and Rose is very vocal about what she wants, and very expressive and honest. Which is also a plus.
Also, considering that the alpha male and alpha female are both part of the hunting, choosing den sites, etc., and Rose's relationship with the Doctor (though they never actually got together. Not actually), it's a very fitting role. They've foiled assassination attempts together, saved the world together, even made other people better, such as Captain Jack Harkness, and Tommy Connelly in "The Idiot's Lantern". It wouldn't be a stretch if, in Pete's World, TenToo and Rose continued that role as the alpha pair.
But of all the wolves, Rose shares most traits with the red wolf, from her small, rather slender appearance to her devotion to the Doctor (indeed, red wolves form bonds for life) to the way she communicates with the Doctor (facial expressions, etc.). There's also the fact that red wolves hunt in small groups or pairs, which suits most of Rose's time -- either a small group or, simply, with the Doctor (not necessarily out of shyness, though; just wanting to preserve her bond with the Doctor). That and the red wolf was considered magical in Native American folklore, tying into Rose's status as a nearly godlike being as The Bad Wolf.
Overall, Rose is very much a mix between red and gray wolves, but she has the traits of the red wolf the most.
