...and it was amazing! Seriously, loved it. :)
Things I Loved:
-The Doctor warding off the Slitheen in the board room by turning their electric field back on them.
-Mickey taking a level in badass and helping to blow up Downing Street.
-The modified phone making a reappearance to help the Doctor, Harriet Jones and Rose get back in contact with Mickey and Jackie.
-Mickey's reaction after learning about which planet the Slitheen are from: "Oh good! We can write them a letter!"
+ Hell, the episode had a lot of funny lines, e.g. Nine giving advice to the soldiers backing him against the lift, and "I think you'll find the Prime Minister's an alien in disguise -- that's never going to work, is it?"
-The Slitheen's plan was genuinely chilling. Especially the ticking clock element of the UN deciding on dispensing the launch codes.
-The bonding between Rose, Harriet Jones and the Doctor was adorable.
-Jackie's indignance near the end over Rose being seemingly given no credit for saving the world, saying that Rose should be on TV, etc. Just...d'awwww. :3
+ Hell, a lot of scenes with Jackie and Rose near the end were really adorable. She and Rose have their difficulties, but it doesn't mean they don't care about one another.
* Also, Jackie calling out the Doctor in regards to his lifestyle, and the Doctor saying that it's not fun. It's just taking a stand where no one else will. Which really makes Rose's speech in "Parting of the Ways" ("You take a stand! You say no!") even more powerful, really. And after that, "I could save the world but lose you." (Oh, Doctor. ;.;) And I know some people (at least elsewhere, not here) have decried it as "manpain" and "the white man's burden", but honestly? I don't think it's about that. It's the matter of, in the past, he's lost people he's cared for, even companions (Adric, anyone?). Not to mention the Time War. I can't imagine how many ended up dead just because he tried to stop Rassilon's madness. And how many he lost even before that. And he's been tormented by that, and it's really taken Rose, in a way, to persuade him that life is indeed worth living. I think it says volumes that after Rose got lost in the parallel world -- well, he nearly drowned himself along with the Racnoss in "The Runaway Bride". And who was there to stop him? Donna. Just with a few words: "Doctor, you can stop now!" In a way, Donna all but took over Rose's role in that moment. Add in what happened to the Master, Donna, Amy and Rory, etc...
It's a steady stream of the-Doctor-can-never-truly-be-happy, and most of it...most of it was a domino effect of Rassilon wanting to save his own neck. And even after the Time Lords were defeated, even after the end of the Time War, it doesn't mean that the Doctor's suffering is necessarily over. It's not necessarily a curse of the Time Lords, but it is of this Time Lord -- a man with his entire planet gone, his family back on Gallifrey no doubt gone, his friends gone. If nothing else, at least, it's a lot of luggage for a man to bear, let alone a Time Lord.
(Sorry if I went off into tangent-land; let's say it's something that's been bothering me for a while)
But anyway, it really gives Jackie a really good moment and everything. Hell, I think this is one of my favorite episodes for Jackie this far -- and Mickey. And everyone. :3
+ Also, Harriet telling the Doctor to get out there and stop the Slitheen.
-"My mom's cooking." "Good! Put her on the pot and let her simmer!" *Snortgigglesnort*
+ Also, Nine's speech if only to get Rose to come with him.
-The conversation between Mickey and Nine near the end.
-Rose becoming a permanent guest on the TARDIS.
-The ending itself. Wonderfully bittersweet.
Overall? Loved it. Definitely recommend. :)
