So, watched "To Catch a Jedi".
Things I Loved:
-Plo Koon and Ki-Adi Mundi were pretty cool in this episode.
-Ahsoka was pretty cool in this episode.
-Anakin was pretty good in this episode.
-Obi-Wan was actually pretty nice here -- which I think says volumes considering that he hasn't been portrayed entirely favorably on the show. It was nice to at least see him sticking up for Anakin, at least.
-Ahsoka and Ventress' alliance. First off, it's great to have her back, and second off, we got to see different facets to her, which was also nice. Not to mention it gave us the opportunity to see Ahsoka showing compassion -- not saying that she's never done it, but it's nice to see nonetheless. And Anakin's moment of realization was nice too.
-Whoever knocked out Ventress and stole her stuff...I'm really getting a bad feeling about all this, I really am. And I'm wondering who could have done it. Another Jedi trying to undermine Ahsoka? Some random disgruntled Jedi? Whoever it is, I'm quite intrigued.
-Anakin's reaction to finding Ahsoka after the Clone Troopers have stunned her. Just his expression -- it's clear just in that expression just how much he cares for her. It's such a simple thing in the animation, and yet it says so much.
-The cliffhanger. Honestly, I'm becoming terrified for Ahsoka, I really am. I just hope that she gets out of this.
Things that bugged me:
-I guess this was just a bit of a holdover from the films (though even in the films he had some degree of humanity there), but I really disliked Mace Windu's treatment of Anakin. I guess I can understand his reasons, but at the same time, the way he said that Anakin wasn't ready, even bordering on insulting him -- yeah, Mace, it's not like Ahsoka was his Padawan or anything. /sarcasm. Hell, you have attachments yourself. You're attached to the Republic. Hell, that was kind of your downfall when dealing with Sidious, remember? At least part of it? So maybe you aren't that different from Anakin, are you, huh? Perhaps I'm just missing the point, perhaps I'm overreacting, but yeah -- that comment rubbed me the wrong way. I think I might have already been devastated by the team breaking up, and Mace's comment was just a new way of rubbing salt in the wound. Not to mention getting the whole "you just dislike the Council because of Anakin" when...well, it's not as simple as that. I think they've just pressed my buttons on people I really, really dislike -- those who don't show compassion to others (or seem to think they can decide who deserves compassion and who doesn't), those who think they can decide who lives and who dies, the sanctimonious, the hypocritical, those who do bad things to children (e.g. browbeating a nine year old boy for missing his mother, giving weapons to children, etc.), those who constantly think they're righteous -- honestly, those are typically traits of villains, not heroes. And granted, they aren't supposed to be heroes as much as tragic heroes, but still...yeah. That and everyone was written so believably in the previous two episodes that...well, when they started acting like they'd been handed the Idiot/Jerkass Ball, it stood out to me. I'm not saying "no conflict", but don't make it feel like a case of "because the plot says so."
-Some of the dialogue between Ahsoka and Ventress came off as a bit clunky. At least earlier. I think it stood out to me because...well, Charles Murray has done such a good job writing believable dialogue that this, to me, stuck out like a sore thumb.
.
But really, other than those two flaws, this was a good episode. I definitely recommend it -- and hope that Ahsoka gets out of trouble in time.
