This was originally from gehayi; posting this because I think other people need to be made aware of this. Basically, CW is planning on making a reality show on -- I promise I'm not kidding; I wish I was kidding -- The Hunger Games. In case you're wondering, nothing lethal is going on (for...obvious reasons, I suppose), but...yeah. I'll let the article speak for itself: 

In The Hunt, 12 tributes teams of two are dropped into the wilderness without food, water or shelter. They must compete in a game where they’ll rely on their physicality, survival skills and hunting skills to endure the harsh conditions and kill “capture” one another...The competition lasts a full month and the winner will receive a cash prize. No premiere date is set.

Oh, and sadly enough, this doesn't end there. Apparently, a few months ago, CW was planning on doing a reality show based on Battle Royale (which has a similar premise to The Hunger Games). According to the original article: The premise is familiar: A high school class chosen at random is dropped off on an island with a single order: Kill each other; last person standing “wins.” But the novel’s execution is much darker than Suzanne Collins’ reality TV-themed Hunger Games trilogy, with lots of gun violence that would likely spark controversy.

The fortunate thing was that they weren't planning any gun violence (I say "fortunate" because...y'know)...but yeah. *Buries face in hands* CW, how can you possibly be that damn stupid?

With regards to something like the Hunger games I think all they see is "Hey,it's based on a popular YA novel series, just turn killing into capturing and ignore all the other darker themes and profit!"

Interesting. tbh, it doesn't sound that different from Survivor where they have to forage for their own food and stuff. I guess the "capturing" part is where there's an issue?

Well, I'm assuming the participants will have an "out" if they get in trouble. So I don't see how it's much different than Survivorman or Man Vs Wild, except adding an element of playing tag.

You know most "reality" shows are scripted, right? This just makes me think of 'Survivor' but with kids.

The kids would obviously not be unsupervised. I'm not saying this is a good idea, I'm just pointing out that there will be adults there to make sure things aren't actually getting out of hand.

That is true. I just think they're missing the point of what the source material was supposed to be about -- critiquing the matter of reality shows and violence in our culture. Making a reality show out of that feels like an epic exercise in missing the point, I think.
