Random things on my mind.
Oct. 31st, 2012 03:24 pm-Still musing about the matter of the new STAR WARS movies -- mostly saying "movies" if only because if I recall correctly, there's going to be plenty more movies to go. On the one hand, maybe George Lucas knows what he's doing, but on the other hand...well, at the same time, I'm not quite certain. After all, after stuff like the prequels and the ID4 fiasco, I don't want something like that to happen again. I don't worry for myself; I'm used to knowing most of the stuff I like is loathed by the general public -- not here, of course. That's really why I like LJ; you kind of feel like you have people there that really understand you. Which is one reason I'm really pissed about the new changes that LJ's making, but one thought at a time -- but at the same time, I think Lucas did deserve better. Besides, maybe it's just me, but I didn't think ID4 was that bad. I mean, true, there were some things that didn't make sense, but Cate Blanchett's character was great (then again, I love Cate Blanchett, so it may be just me being biased), and I didn't mind Shia LaBouef as much as others did. True, he got annoying at times, but I didn't think his character was that bad. That said, I thought RLM's video made some good points, but I think most off-LJ people disliked it if only because of Shia LeBouef, the whole nuclear fridge fiasco, aliens, and the fact Lucas was at the helm. Not to mention it was just...average, at least according to some in regards to why they disliked it. I could be wrong, though, but it was just something that bothered me for quite a while.
-Speaking of Lucas, there's actually something else that's bothering me: him leaving his fans. Not because he necessarily had to retire, but the way he did it: basically insulting just about everyone in his fanbase. Look, George, I know that there are some in your fanbase that are asshats, but here's the secret: every fandom has its asshats. Most people are here to have fun and bond and maybe fall in love, and those who criticize...most of them actually have some legitimate grievances. They aren't all the "Lucas raped my childhood" morons -- most of them have legitimate grievances against the Saga, like thinking that the plot dragged in TPM, or that the romance between Anakin and Padme was unrealistic, or that the plot relied too much on the characters being morons for it to proceed. Personally, I don't agree with all of these, but I can see their points. I can also understand where one would get upset, considering some of the more idiotic comments, but that doesn't reflect the fandom as a whole. And really? Fans having to leave the fandom for whatever reason doesn't make them bad fans either. No one's a bad fan. Honestly? I think they're all fans, in ways large and small.
Hell, I'll admit I have my issues with STAR WARS. But it doesn't mean I hate it or am a bad fan. Every good story has its faults. It doesn't necessarily make it a bad story. Just flawed in some places. And that's not a terrible thing.
I'm not trying to play the authority on fandom or anything, and I could be wrong. But I had to get it out before I exploded.
-The matter of LJ's changes. I can understand having to make changes to a site, but some of LJ's changes are completely ridiculous. I mean, the neverending scroll of the friends page makes no sense. Not to mention changing the look of the LJ cut once. While I like some of the changes, like adding a spoiler cut tag, the others are just arbitrary and inane, e.g. that whole removal of subject lines. I've imported to Dreamwidth under ladyofleithian, just in case, but at the same time...it's not going to quite be the same.
-Going to start NaNo tomorrow. Sequel to my previous NaNo. I guess the only worry really on my mind, besides "Can I do it", is, "Am I wasting everything I can do?" I mean, because on the one hand, I love writing fanfic, but on the other hand, I keep feeling like I'm going nowhere. Stuck in nowhere (which would make a good book title but I digress), really. I feel like I want to be someone, and it doesn't help that my mom wants me to write original fiction more. It's...really a stupid thing to worry about, but at the same time, I do feel stuck in nowhere. Confused, really. Like I'm in the maze of the Minotaur without a ball of yarn or a flashlight. I'm still working on my original fiction, but at the same time, I'm also worrying: what if I honestly have nothing new to offer? I can't say I have much of a writing range either; it's always this "save the world" type stuff. Which I guess might not be a bad thing, and yet...
Then again, I suppose I'm just being stupid. *Sighs* Damn worries...
And that's my brain dump. Sorry if I accidentally offended anyone, BTW; I had to get it all out. *Prays no one kills me or anything*

But what I'm hoping is that if all the people on the project will work together and something amazing or at least entertaining will come out of this deal. The possibilities are endless.

Date: 2012-10-31 08:09 pm (UTC)And I'm a little disappointed about it not being based on THE THRAWN TRILOGY or the NJO or whatever because of the fact it would be really cool to see Mara Jade on screen, or Jacen Solo on screen, but nonetheless...I think it's going to be pretty cool. :) And I guess we can always make our own fanfilms and write our own scripts. :)
*Hugs more*

Date: 2012-10-31 08:17 pm (UTC)And yes, seeing Mara Jade on the big screen would be mindbogglingly awesome. Who would you cast for her, BTW? I was thinking maybe Nicole Kidman thanks to her role in MOULIN ROUGE, or maybe Alex Kingston thanks to her role in DOCTOR WHO. Who do you think would make a good Mara? :)

Date: 2012-10-31 08:51 pm (UTC)Hmmm I don't know. Nicole Kidman is a good choice, but she seems too delicate, know what I mean? She'd probably kick ass as Mara Jade though and it'd be funny since Ewan was in the prequels and they were in Moulin Rouge together.

Date: 2012-10-31 09:45 pm (UTC)Then again, there's so much in the EU that it's probably better off as a TV series anyway. I know one thing I'd definitely love to see is an adaptation of LOTF animated a la CLONE WARS. With Dave Filoni on duty. Maybe Russell T. Davies of DOCTOR WHO fame as showrunner and Lucas as executive producer. I know I actually tried to make my own script for LOTF back when I was a kid -- can't say I finished it, sadly, but it was a lot of fun for the most part. :)
And aha, so true regarding the MOULIN ROUGE thing. :) (And I love that scene in MOULIN ROUGE! :D Hell, I love MOULIN ROUGE in general. :)

Date: 2012-10-31 09:36 pm (UTC)I'm doing NaNo too, this'll be my - *thinks* - sixth? NaNo. All novels set in my own original universe that I've been cooking up for a very long time!
Hell, I'll admit I have my issues with STAR WARS. But it doesn't mean I hate it or am a bad fan. Every good story has its faults. It doesn't necessarily make it a bad story. Just flawed in some places. And that's not a terrible thing.
SO THIS. Hell, I can pick the flaws in HP to pieces. Doesn't mean Harry Potter isn't still my ultimate fandom!

Date: 2012-10-31 09:40 pm (UTC)That's awesome! :D This is actually my second NaNo. :) I'm on one hand terrified about it, but on the other hand...well, I'm mindbogglingly excited. Just...eeee! :D
And thanks. :) And very well said! :D Seriously. :)

Date: 2012-10-31 09:51 pm (UTC)Exactly. And as I noted in my comment on the News page (just one of 20-something pages of comments ALL HATING IT!), infinite scrolling is going to choke anyone with less than 4 gigs of RAM!
*bows* I try. ;)

Date: 2012-10-31 11:28 pm (UTC)But I'm just worried about how they're going to do Number 7... there are over 200 books in the 'extended universe' now and most of them are canon and there are ones with huge story arcs like the Legacy and New Jedi Order and Fate of the Jedi series too... most include Han, Luke and Leia...so yeah, I just don't see what they're going to do or how they're going to do it without destroying some of the EU...
But I am looking forward to it regardless, and hoping all will be okay lol!

Date: 2012-11-01 10:31 am (UTC)But I'm totally with you regarding the changes to livejournal. I hate the new look of the f-page! I wish they didn't change anything!!!
I'm not leaving livejournal though. I've been here for nine years and I think I'm going to stay unless, of course, things get really bad.
Best of luck with NaNoWriMo!

Date: 2012-11-02 12:00 pm (UTC)I guess there's always that possibility, but all you can do really is to keep working at it, and you'll probably make good.
Nothing necessarily wrong with that, but I know the feeling of having a pretty restricted field of work. I used to get that a lot a couple of years ago, and I still do, to an extent.
Just remember that we're young yet, and we've got a lot more growing still to do. If you really do need to break out of the "save the world" storytelling mode, you probably will, at some point. (One good piece of advice I've gotten is to find reading material which interests you outside of the genre.) Basically, don't sweat it too much.
