This is a very interesting link, mostly in regards to any possible Nostalgia Critics now that To Boldly Flee is finished. Granted, Doug has said that there's going to be Nostalgia Critic retrospectives and such, and that you haven't seen the last of him, et cetera et cetera, but nonetheless...I'll admit I am going to miss him. I really am. I still have really fond memories of going to TGWTG whenever I had a bad day or such and having a laugh over his reviews. Hell, I remember it was one source of bonding time between my brother and I at one point -- just geeking out about his reviews. Not to mention they were infinitely quotable, insightful, funny...stuff like that. I guess I can understand where Doug is coming from, somewhat, and I'm pretty interested in regards to the new show and such, but even so, I doubt it's going to be the same without the usual Wednesdays.
So, Doug, if you're reading this, by some impossible chance...thank you. Thank you for hours of quality humor and entertainment. I doubt it's going to be sufficient in terms of summing up what you've given a lot of people, but...thank you.
(Also, the Doomsday icon? Yeah, I'll admit it's how I feel right now. Sort of)

Date: 2012-09-15 07:03 pm (UTC)This? It really feels like the end of an era. The Nostalgia Critic really made the site, for a lot of people. He was the main reason I regularly checked in. My brother quoted him a lot, and that was what got me into it (Titanic: The Animated Musical, that was the first review of his that I watched). He was the reason Nostalgia Chick, Marzgurl, That Chick with the Goggles, Todd in the Shadows, Film Brain, and so many other site members were inspired to start reviewing. I don't know how popular the idea of online reviews were before the NC started up, but I think he really got the idea to be popular.
I am excited to hear that Doug has so many new things planned. He really takes his reviews seriously and, by all accounts, is a guy who always is mindful of the thoughts and opinions of his fans and his co-workers. If he thinks that it's best to hang up his NC persona and try something new, I have no doubt that he put a lot of time into that decision.
There's a lot of change to Channel Awesome overall. There are so many more reviewers, handling many, many topics. Suade returned. Spoony and Bhargov have both left the site. Lindsy announced that she and Todd are starting personal websites (though she did say she'd continue reviewing for TGWTG). It won't be the same, but hell, the site has gone through plenty of changes. That it is able to go through so much development, that people are able to put so much effort into a series of productions which most people would consider a hobby at best... well, that's fantastic.
I really am sad that the Nostalgia was retired while I am still in the fandom. One of the things that really kills me is if I get into a story or a series or a fandom or a fanfiction or whatever, only to find that it has fizzled out or has been abandoned. But there are good things to come I'm sure, and we'll have to hang in there for them! :)

Date: 2012-09-15 07:24 pm (UTC)Really? That's awesome! :D The first NC review for me was the NORTH review -- I was randomly browsing TV Tropes when I found it. I loved his analysis of the movie, the LOTR jokes, etc., so I fell in love immediately. And from there I was hooked. :) And yeah, it does feel like the end of an era. But yeah, the fact that it's changed so much...well, it's wonderful and terrifying at the same time. But mostly wonderful. :)
And hopefully. :) And thanks. :) *hugs*

Date: 2012-09-16 06:04 pm (UTC)It also sounds as though Critic will occasionally pop up again in a role other than reviewer. Maybe he'll appear as the exasperated boss of the studio or something. That'd be awesome. :D
