Things that are just freaking me out.

1. Was randomly lurking about on Twitter yesterday when I heard about the Daniel Tosh incident. For those not in the know...brace yourself. Link's right here, in case you're wondering: http://breakfastcookie.tumblr.com/post/26879625651/so-a-girl-walks-into-a-comedy-club

Basically, Daniel Tosh was, during his stand-up routine, talking about how funny rape jokes were, how rape jokes could never be, for lack of a better word, not funny, and when an audience member called him out on it, he started going on about how funny it would be if she was gang-raped by a bunch of people. Which...*Sighs* You never wish gang rape upon another person. You simply don't. It's just...horrible. I -- urgh.

2. And on another note, the official policing of the Internet is starting tomorrow. Fortunately, there are ways to appeal and thus get around all this (and the article I linked earlier has some tips to avoid it, I believe), but even so, I'll admit I'm afraid. *Sighs* I swear our government's turning into a police state day by day.

Re: #2, I can't shake the idea that it sounds like the powers that be are trying to control a beast they created in the first place. Which scares me, but gives me hope as well.

#2 I'm not downplaying the seriousness of the situation. What I'm saying is, they made it possible for us to do all we are doing, and they're flipping their shit about it because things didn't turn out exactly as planned. "Interactivity" was designed to be controlled by the powers that be, but we ran out of hand. These laws are damage control.

Yeah...*Sighs* I can imagine. I just wish he didn't have to threaten an audience member, basically, with gang rape. That's just not cool.

It's personal and degrading. For him. Don Rickles could be mean, too, but the times have changed and Tosh seems 'on' all the time, in a way that Rickles did not. For the record, I did not much care for Rickles' comedy.

Rickles used to be big on the late night interview shows. It's been a long time ago, but I read in the Wiki article that he's not mellowed. I dunno, he seemed friendly like Tosh can be, but there was that cobra lurking beneath the big smile, just like Tosh's. Insult comic just doesn't reach me, I guess. Perhaps it might appeal if one is actually in the audience, rather than reading about it later or seeing it on YouTube? I dunno.
