Tell me you want to play and I'll pick up to three of your fandoms. Then update your journal and answer the following questions:
1. What got you into this fandom in the first place?
2. Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
3. Favorite episodes/books/movies, etc?
4. Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
5. Do you think more people should get into this fandom?
I was given Twilight (stop laughing. XD), Star Wars, and Lord of the Rings.
Twilight:
1. Bought the books just to see what all the fuss was about. It took a while, but they grew on me -- they're not perfect books, but they're not the Antichrist like some corners of the Internet make them out to be. (Trust me, guys, there are worse)
2. Stay.
3. Probably New Moon and Eclipse.
4. I wrote some fan fic for it, once. One, I remember, was a What If story -- what if Bree Tanner survived Eclipse and became a part of the gang? Honestly, if there's one thing I can thank Carlisle for, it's definitely trying to give Bree Tanner a second chance, especially considering she was basically tricked into following Victoria. Granted, the Volturi didn't buy it, but the intent was worthy of admiration.
5. It would be nice, but honestly? They don't have to if they don't want to.
Star Wars:
1. I already covered the fact that I got into them via the PT novelizations (after failed attempts to get into the Original Trilogy as a kid), but I was already fascinated with Anakin's story from what I heard about it. Getting the PT novelizations (and watching the OT again) just solidified it.
2. I'm staying, no matter what.
3. In terms of the Original Trilogy, Empire Strikes Back and (yes, for all I may have ragged on it) Return of the Jedi. A New Hope is just too...it's not a bad movie, but it feels more like a set-up than an installment in its own right. In terms of the Prequel Trilogy...well, pretty much all of them. XD
4. Very, very much.
5. Yes.
Lord of the Rings:
1. First read the books in middle school before watching the movies. Needless to say, both blew me away, the movies moreso.
2. I'll stay.
3. In terms of the books, The Two Towers. In terms of the movies...in terms of best, Return of the King. In terms of favorite, Fellowship of the Ring, if only for Arwen and Boromir.
4. Occasionally. Back then, I was a rabid Lord of the Rings fangirl -- I think I was even trying to learn Elvish. Can't say I succeeded. XD
5. Oh, hell yes!

It's all right. :) *Hugs* It happens. :)
Also, in case you want to play: Batman, Wonder Woman, and Lord of the Rings.

Date: 2012-02-13 02:47 am (UTC)Batman
1. A mix of some kick ass 80s comics, Michelle Pfieffer in skintight vinyl, and Batman the Animated Series.
2. I'm forever stuck in the 20th century on this one since the franchise has evolved into something decidedly un-heroic. There will always be a place in my fandom for it, but it's pretty much frozen in carbonite.
3. There are soooo many to list, especially in comics. Ask for a must-read list if you really want one. For perfect Batman on screen, see the following animated movies: Mask of the Phantasm, Return of the Joker, and Under the Red Hood.
4. Batman runs rampant in my DC Heroes RPG where needed, and it seems I'm always trying to explain how WB/DC has destroyed the character over the last decade, so I'm always involved.
5. For the right reasons, yes. Batman was voted most popular character of the century for a reason - people can relate to him a little too well. Properly explained, Batman can help them push past a lot of personal angst in very positive ways.
Wonder Woman
1. First the 90s "The Contest" comics storyline, then the 1987 George Perez reboot.
2. Like Batman, my fandom is frozen in the 20th century. In an effort to make her more popular, she's abandoned the compassion that made her who she is in favor of becoming something... scary.
3. Again, too numerous to name in the comics. Ask for a must-read list if you're interested. Good intros would be the animated movie Wonder Woman and the animated Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths.
4. Like Batman, she runs amuck in the DC RPG that I run, and I occasionally find people to talk about.
5. Most definitely, but read comics before the reboot in WW #600 a couple of years ago. Most people have this notion that she's a female Superman and nothing more. Like myself, the more you know, the more she surprises you. When written correctly, she's like nothing else out there.
Lord of the Rings
1. My elementary school used to show us The Hobbit every year. I read the books after that. The rest is history.
2. This one's a keeper.
3. You read through it all to get to Return of the King. It's quite possibly one of the greatest finales to a saga ever written.
4. Only Tolkien writes Middle Earth. But I'll discuss it with anyone, on pretty much any level from casual fan to scholar.
5. The story of Middle Earth is the story of everyday heroism in unparalleled hardship. It's the story of humanity at its worst and at its very best. Absolutely people should get involved.

Date: 2012-02-13 03:09 am (UTC)Exactly what did they do to Batman and Wonder Woman? I know about the failed pilot and the Nolan movies, but...y'know, I'm curious.

Date: 2012-02-13 02:57 am (UTC)Organa upbringing aside, let's not forget she's Anakin's daughter and she is a lot like him. More so than she's alike Padme. When in the universe would Anakin shy away from a good fight? Never. And neither would Leia. Politics is second in her mind.

Date: 2012-02-13 01:08 am (UTC)Huh, I'm familiar with all three canons. SW and LOTR, of course, and I've read and watched Twilight to see for myself. I do think it's as bad as people say, though - just no worse than a lot of other stuff that gets less attention because ~think of the children~ or whatever.
You like ROTJ better? Now that's a surprise - I do know some people who do (I muuuuuuch prefer ANH myself, in other shocking news), but I didn't think you really liked ROTJ at all. Especially what with Anakin dying. At the ripe old age of forty-something. But he does die well, so there's that.
I studied Sindarin and Quenya too! It was fun.
And made Spanish seem easy.Sorry if I don't make sense; I'm a tad groggy.
Date: 2012-02-13 01:43 am (UTC)And regarding TWILIGHT -- *is curious*

XD
I actually do love ROTJ. I have my issues with it (the semi-depowerment of Leia, the rushed character arcs, etc.), but I think it's generally a good film. :)

That's awesome! :D Seriously. :)
And heh...I can imagine.

Date: 2012-02-14 10:45 pm (UTC)Star Wars
1. I think I'd have to define fandom. I read all the young Jedi books when I was in fourth grade and was pretty much a fangirl then but I didn't know what fandom was then. Internet wise it was the prequels.
2. I'm not really in the fandom that much. I like it and know of it but I'm not actively participating.
3. Return of the Jedi is my favorite movie. I feel like a lot of people don't like it but I love it and its just so...I have no words.
4. I have written a single Star Wars fanfic. Its posted and I like it but I'm pretty sure I won't write others.
5. Sure but I feel like its already one of the biggest fandoms out there.
Harry Potter
1. Sorting communities. I was in love with those and sorted into Gryffindor in everyone except the hybrid where I was in the Ravenclaw/Gryffindor house.
2. I really haven't been in fandom for a few years now. The sorting communities got really cliquey and I was in college and didn't have the same amount of time to dedicate to things that they did. So I stopped...but I was the president of the Harry Potter club on campus
3. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban for book, Deathly Hallows Part 2 for the movie and I really love Harry and Ginny kissing for the first time in Half-Blood Prince as well as Snape's Memory.
4. I was all in for discussions of the books and theories when they were still not finished. I have Harry Potter fanfics as well and I have like a half heartedly started Hermione/Snape fic that I just don't know how to write but they are my favorite non-canon pairing (I don't believe Neville/Luna isn't canon).
5. YES ALL THE TIME. Its just...one of those things.
Lord of the Rings
1. My friends telling me about the Bagenders fanfic. Its this really hilarious (much more so now that I know more about British comedy) fic where the Fellowship were given immortality and now live in modern day England in one flat/house. Aragorn is a forest ranger. From there I started looking for more fanfic and then read the books because I'd just seen the movies and all these fics were referencing people and places I didn't know about.
2. I've kind of moved on but the Hobbit is coming out and the trailer gave me chills so maybe I'll go back? I don't know, I'm much more into the race of Men in the series and don't really care about Hobbits so that's not going to inspire me.
3. Favorite book and movie is Return of the King. Favorite chapter is the Steward and the King because its the whole Faramir/Éowyn romance and I love it. Favorite line is "Such times that we live in where myths and legends spring from the grass." or something like that from Éomer in Two Towers.
4. I did and sometimes still do through a yahoo group I joined like over seven years ago (wow...I just thought of that). I was active on a Faramir/Éowyn message board but dropped off when it kind of died. I have a bunch of fanfics and one that I've abandoned (Éomer/Lothíriel fic where I have no idea what I was doing with her characterization and have no idea where it was going).
5. Again, its a pretty established fandom full of a lot of really dedicated people. I've met some very interesting people through there (literally, there was a whole New Years celebration where over 20 of us from one message board (different than the Faramir/Éowyn one) got together) and its one of the most in depth fandoms I've been in. Seriously dates, so many dates and I kind of love that.
