ladyofleithianGive me a character's name and I will tell you three reasons why it would be terrible to try to date them, have sex with them, or be in a long-term relationship with them.
For an extra challenge, pick characters you know I'm fond of. Anyone can tell you reasons not to date Cthulhu, after all.

1. Former Sith assassin.
2. Mean to T3. While he's a cool guy and everything, you kind of subtract some points for being mean to the poor fella.
3. Juma and pazaak addiction.
Sadly enough, these three reasons are pretty much...reasons I've run into on places like KFM and TV Tropes. *Sighs* They think Atton's a misogynist for some reason. And nope, I'm not gonna let them live it down. Sorry. :/
But on a lighter note, three reasons it's good to date him:
1. He's funny.
2. He's incredibly loyal.
3. He loves the female Exile for who she is, not just what she looks like.
YMMV, naturally. :) #Is an Atton fangirl. XD

Date: 2011-07-09 02:28 pm (UTC)I haven't read the EU (and don't really plan to read any of its books in the future), so fortunately, I have no idea who Caedus is (apart from what you've mentioned in your posts) and thus can happily remain ignorant of how various EU writers have butchered Luke's character.
But yes, I may like some "bad-boy" characters (okay, I like a *lot* of bad-boy characters, so sue me XD), but I do like the sweet guys, too, and Luke is one of them. ^^

I think this quote from FATE OF THE JEDI: ABYSS really sums it up -- basically, they've escaped from some mooks with the intent of blasting them to smithereens, and Luke, instead of going, "Oh thank the Force we outran them", goes, "Oh, what a mess they made, blah blah blah..." Sort of like something *Palpatine* would say. TBF, his Sith companion, Vestara, does call him out on it, and...this happens:
VESTARA: I expected more compassion from a Jedi.
LUKE: Compassion is for those who deserve it.
I mean...why did you redeem Vader then, you hypocritical sonuvabitch? It goes back a little further with LEGACY OF THE FORCE: INVINCIBLE, when Luke decides his fallen nephew's beyond redemption (even though he hasn't really done anything wrong -- not worse than Vader's done, that is) because of an incident where he killed his wife, Mara Jade, in self defense. I guess one could say Luke was blinded by grief and hatred (especially since in the EU, you can really see how much she means to him), but when you take other instances of people falling and being redeemed into account (for example, one guy blew up entire star systems and got accepted back in the Order without even a slap on the wrist), it just becomes...argh! *Sighs* I love Luke dearly, but let's just say as a result of Legacy of the Force - Fate of the Jedi that it's going to be difficult to write him -- especially in one fanfiction I'm writing, where he becomes Vader and Anakin, his son, has to save the galaxy. With canon!Vader, you get a bit of pity for him, but with Role Reversal Vader...*sighs* It's going to take a lot of hard work to keep myself from portraying him as a Psychopathic Manchild who doesn't care about anyone else as long as he gets what he wants (although I guess I'm doing...a bit okay. :). I think Clark Griswold sums up my feelings on EU Luke better than I ever could:

This is one of the reasons why I wish that people would call this character EU!Luke instead of just Luke. I think of Luke as the original Luke, the one from the movies. Stuff like this makes me think that people should really distinguish between the two characters. Luke is not married to Mara Jade, he does not blithely dismiss the deaths of various people by saying that they "made a mess," he does not treat his family like dirt, and he does NOT say things like, "Compassion is only for those who deserve it."

No kidding. :/ I mean, I didn't hate LOTF (it had its good points. :), but nothing was really worth the psychological scarring related to Luke. :( Nothing.
