More notes on THE LAST AIRBENDER remake

As I said in my post about the Razzies, the battle for the Razzies is over. The battle to give Airbender the adaptation it rightfully deserves is about to begin. ^___^

And let's say that I, plus millions of others, are willing to take up the challenge.

Just some basic notes:

-Flesh out Azula and Ozai's motivations some more. Azula is a crazy-competent villainess with some Daddy's Girl tendencies -- and a love-hate relationship with her mother that ultimately drives her over the edge.

I was thinking Summer Glau for Azula, if only for a bit of type-casting. :P (Okay, I kid. XD) But in all seriousness, I think she'd capture Azula's deadliness and grace, as well as her psychological complexity.

So...where did Shyamalan fail, you may ask?

Yeah...in the show, Azula's a crazy competent villain who deteriorates over time. This, on the other hand...well, Azula just looks a bit like a crack addict, for lack of a better word. You'd assume she'd just deteriorated immediately. :/

I don't have any complaints about Summer Bishil as an actress; in fact, I loved her in Crossing Over and Towelhead -- but she's just not Azula. Here's another pic of her:

Granted, Azula's not the Obviously Evil type (it's far more chilling to see her as a deceptively sweet girl that can kick your ass), but she looks far too sweet and innocent. (Then again, if Elijah Wood could pull off Kevin in Sin City...)

I think in the end, if I were going with the Indian Fire Nation motif, I'd cast Summer as Ty Lee. Keisha Castle-Hughes as Mai, and Nazneen Contractor as Azula. There. It is done. ;-)




A white/Russian Water Tribe (and no, I didn't make that up; I'm dead serious), a predominantly Asian Earth Kingdom, a mixed race Air Nomad tribe, and Indian Fire Nation. Let's see...

I'd keep Noah Ringer as Aang, naturally. ;-) Seriously, check out the Behind The Scenes stuff; he *is* Aang. Playing pranks on people, and so on and so forth -- he's Aang!
