ladyofleithian: (when will my life begin)
...and all I have to say is that that is fricking awesome! :D I already loved what he did with the Star Trek reboot -- great story (and yeah, maybe the matter -- heh -- of the Red Matter was kind of silly, and maybe Kirk was promoted too quickly to Captain, but it didn't make me enjoy it any less), amazing reinterpretation of the characters (I know I really loved Kirk's journey in all of this), great action, a great villain (seriously, I like Nero. Only thing I don't like was how some stuff from the prequel comics didn't make it into the movie, because that would have been amazing, and giving new background on why he hated the Federation so much. Honestly, I will admit, even after he destroyed Vulcan, I can't help but feel sorry for Nero, in a way. It doesn't excuse what he did, but I guess I do pity him, in a way), great moments of humor, and so on and so forth. Honestly? I think Abrams might be what the franchise needs. I definitely have faith in him.

So, good luck, Mr. Abrams. You're going to be, in the words of a certain Time Lord, fantastic.
ladyofleithian: (nine love)
Mostly in terms of Season One, namely "Rose" and "The End of the World", which, in all honesty, was a lot of fun. Especially watching it with my mom and brother -- just seeing their reactions (e.g. their frustration with Mickey going to check out that trash can that eventually turns him into a plastic Nestene duplicate, just going all "Get out of the car!" and "No! Not that way!" was pretty hilarious. XD) was fun to watch, not to mention the matter of...well, I'll admit I haven't seen "Rose" and "The End of the World" up until now (yeah, I know. XD) so it was a good way to sort of catch up along with them. We had to pause for the night -- hopefully, we'll be able to see some more episodes.

Analysis of the episodes )
So overall? Definitely loving it so far. :3 I think I'm falling in love with Nine and co. all over again, which I think is pretty needed considering...well, I've been going through a bit of a rough time. I know that in other rough patches, DOCTOR WHO...I think in a way it made me better. Boosting my standards in terms of what I want to see in fiction, in characters, etc. And generally restoring hope where hope seemed to be gone. And watching it all from the beginning, I'm starting to appreciate it a hell of a lot more than I already did. So yeah...can't wait for stuff like "The Unquiet Dead", etc. (And "Aliens of London"! Harriet Jones! I definitely can't wait. :)

14 - Thisness and the written word: Do you ever use abstract descriptions in specifying little details? Given an object or interaction a sense of "thisness"? For example, "the clouds were glassy in the sky." Clouds cannot literally have a quality like glass, yet in this sentence they have been given a sense of "glassness" that gives the reader a more specific description of them, and somehow maintains an air of believability. Discuss why this is a believable description, though it is not actually possible.

That's a very good question. I'll admit, I haven't really done something like that, as much as I can recall. But it's a very handy technique. I think clouds can be described to have a sort of glassy quality if only in the sense of being oddly shiny, and having the sun shining through them. Perhaps in late afternoon, or something. It gives you an image of what it looks like outside, if only just an image.

Rest of questions. )
ladyofleithian: (rose tyler the stolen earth: happy)
...and oh my God, how could I have possibly missed this episode? :D It's brilliant! :D :D

Warning for spoilers for those who are still new to WHO, so to speak. )
So overall, loved it. :3 Also, can't wait for the "Aliens of London/World War Three" two-parter. Seriously. :3
