Summary: Kylo learns Poe is alive.
Prompt: Alone in the Woods
Disclaimer: I own nothing.
It was in the woods themselves that Kylo was supposed to be following his stormtroopers’ lead. Looking for the girl — and, of course, the droid. BB-8, he reminded himself despite better judgment. He and BB-8 had known each other, like —
He wasn’t ready to think of Poe. Not here, not now. Not only was it detrimental to his mission, to his image even, but it also hurt. Hurt like he had personally been stabbed. If he hadn’t been a coward. If he’d found some sort of excuse to spare Poe…
It had all happened so very quickly. Too quickly. And Kylo knew there was no way that Poe Dameron could have survived all but drowning in the sands of Jakku.
Except…
He felt something. Stopped in the forest, froze. A reemergence in the Force. He didn’t want to believe that there was still hope, that Poe was still alive. No one could survive that, and Kylo Ren wasn’t so blessed by the Force to have good things happen, to have the people he cared about being spared. (See also the Academy, and Tai)
But it was Poe. He could feel it, his presence — he knew Poe’s presence, joyous while flying, a wonderful, soaring figure that could touch the sky if he so wanted to.
It was Poe.
The pilot’s presence was pure light, pure sunlight, and Kylo knew that Vader had not only come through, but also gone above and beyond in sparing Poe. Because Poe deserved to live, because a galaxy without him was scarcely worth thinking about.
Because Poe was, simply, everything to him after all this time.
He had a job to do, in finding BB-8 and the stranger girl who accompanied him. (A stranger that still felt, for some reason, like he’d met her before) But for a moment, in the woods of Takodana, he could close his eyes and thank Vader for coming through for him, right here, right now.
