Title: Passive

Summary: Kylo has a lot to say to Poe while Poe’s unconscious.

Prompt: All Tied Up: Handcuffs Ropes And Restraints

Disclaimer: I own nothing.

Even as he actually looks at Poe across the room, in the shadows, Kylo Ren can’t say that he likes the restraints. They’re already unnecessary as-is in his presence, but of course, they’re part of procedure. He hates them; there’s something about seeing them on Poe that are just wrong.

As is the idea of interrogating him. It’s because he finds the interrogations distasteful. That’s one reason. Kylo goes through with them, but he doesn’t really take any enjoyment out of them. He’s not the Emperor. He never has been.

Even the idea of taking Snoke’s place as Supreme Leader seems laughable at best, but Kylo Ren isn’t about to just be weak, crushed under Snoke’s foot any longer. It seems, at times, that he’s caught between two options that just seem ludicrous.

Poe is lying against the rack, unconscious. Kylo knows exactly what happened. He felt it, and was too cowardly to do things one way or another.

“I know you can hear me,” Kylo says.

No answer. What exactly is he thinking, talking with an unconscious man?

“You should not have come to Jakku,” Kylo says. “You shouldn’t have looked for the map. And I shouldn’t have looked for you."

Still no answer. Kylo wishes, in that moment, that Poe was actually awake so he could respond properly. It doesn’t seem right that he’s unconscious. He should be awake, mouthy, vibrant.

“Why didn’t you look for me?” Deep down, Kylo knows that he’s not really ranting at Poe. It’s not him he’s angry at. His body still trembles with resentment nonetheless. Resentment he’s held for six years — maybe more? "I wanted someone, anyone, to find me. To save me from Snoke. I wanted someone to, even though they couldn’t care less about me. Me, the disappointment son."

No answer. Kylo wishes right now Poe would actually open his eyes. Why does he have to be unconscious? Better question: why did Kylo Ren have to be such a kriffing coward? It’s like…who can’t decide whether someone should live or die?

(It sounds almost like a song. Under better circumstances, Kylo would actually find that humorous in a bleak way)

“So I got off hard,” Kylo continues. “Brushed under the cargo ramp like yet another dirty General Organa secret. She chose you. She honed you as a replacement. And it fits too, doesn’t it?”

He pauses.

“Because you’re not me,” Kylo says. “Because you’re a good person. I’m not. It’s why you protested killing the villagers. Why you spared FN-2187’s life. You just had to be a good person. You just had to be the hero. Deserving of all this. Because you're not me."

No answer.

“I don’t like hurting you. I don’t want to hurt you. I…” Kylo cuts himself off at the pass. He’s not going to say that he loves Poe, although he does, very much so. “You’re rare. I think I’ve said too much."

***

When Poe actually stirs, that’s when Kylo makes his half-sarcastic, half-complimentary remark about Poe being the best pilot in the Resistance. Because dear stars…it’ll be the last bit of mercy he shows before the pain starts.
