Title: Good For Him

Summary: Ben has some insecurities about himself, and his relationship with Poe.

Prompt: Beauty

Disclaimer: I own nothing.

It still amazed Ben Solo, that Poe Dameron wanted to be with him.

There was the fact that Poe was stunning to look at — his delicate features, his curly black hair, his bright brown eyes. It was something that still struck Ben even just picturing him. He could all but immortalize Poe in some sort of painting, some sort of drawing, if he so desired.

Ben himself — he was nothing really special to look at. He was plain — not necessarily ugly, not necessarily grotesque, but definitely awkward. No one had really given him shit over his looks; even Voe, who disliked him for other reasons, hadn’t. It hadn’t necessarily stopped Ben from feeling different in the shadow of his parents. His dashing, rogueish father. His mother, with her almost angelic beauty. He didn’t really look like either of them. Given that they didn’t talk about Ben’s grandparents on either side, Ben sometimes wondered if there was someone in his grandparental side that was particularly genetically unlucky. (Or the Force had forsaken them. Something something no such thing as luck…)

It wasn’t just Poe’s physical beauty, though, even though he was almost unreal in his beauty. Angelic, Ben had thought at one point, cheesy as it was. It was the fact that Poe was just so uncommonly kind, strikingly funny as well. Ben doubted he knew someone else quite like Poe, someone with Poe’s smile, Poe’s simple affection and empathy for other people.

It was something that encouraged Ben to see that there was good in the galaxy; sometimes he swore without it, he was drowning. It was something that, also, made Ben feel very inadequate.

One evening, when Ben was sketching out Poe on his sketchpad, he found himself pausing. Looking from the flimsiplast to Poe, who was sitting in front of him, patiently waiting as his model.

“Are you okay?” Poe said.

Ben nodded. “I just…do you ever wonder why you’re with me? I mean, sometimes I…” He trailed off. He didn’t know how to finish the sentence without sounding pitiful.

“You’re plenty good enough.” Poe said, gently. “You're wonderful, Ben. I mean, I love how funny you can be. How kind. How you were there for me no matter what. Just to name three. I mean…you don’t realize how important that really is to me.”

“You’re…” For a moment, Ben doubted that he could speak. “You’re incredibly important to me. More important than anything.”

“So are you.” Poe paused, looking over Ben. Then, “Do you want to stop?”

“No. I want to keep going. I…like drawing you.” That was putting it mildly, Ben thought. He could find ways to immortalize better qualities in Poe just through a sketch stroke, and remember how blessed he really was to be this way.
