The Page of Pentacles -- The Page of Pentacles within each of us is a good energy to call upon when we must manage a team or handle a big responsibility. I decided to choose the scene where Arwen rides with Frodo to the Ford because that's a huge amount of responsibility she's undertaking, along with a heck of a lot of bravery.

The Hermit IX -- When questions about the nature of existence and the purpose of life start eating away at your mind, answers will not be found in the physical world. They can only be found inside of you. Referring to Arwen's vision in Return of the King because throughout the trilogy, she's been conflicted about the matter of choosing a mortal life. It's just seeing the vision of her son that she decides to make the decision to become mortal.

Five of Wands -- The Five of Wands shows two types of conflict - outer and inner. The former arises when the world around you is filled with hassles and minor obstacles that would not slow your progress alone, but, when combined, they become increasingly difficult to overcome. The latter meaning manifests in times of difficult ethical choices, when the head fights the heart and when both are in combat with the conscience, each trying to tell you the best way to act and the right thing to do. I decided to choose the matter of Arwen learning the real cost of choosing mortality, because there's already been a lot of external conflict in terms of the War of the Ring, and at the same time, back at home in Rivendell, Arwen's struggling with the decision to leave for Valinor or stay in Middle Earth.

Strength VIII -- The only qualities that abound in Strength are courage and patience. Decided to choose the scene where Arwen talks with Elrond after finally choosing mortality. Because her real strength is the strength of her conviction, and her love for Aragorn, and I think it's displayed beautifully in this scene.

The High Priestess II -- The High Priestess is arguably the most difficult of the Major Arcana to qualify with words alone, because so much of her power and ability is veiled in mystery that it is difficult for anyone to fathom it all. Every card in the Tarot speaks differently to everyone, but the Priestess seems to bear the widest range of interpretations, because she speaks directly to the Inner Voice, the unconscious mind. She is the manifestation of the unconscious and the effects of the mysterious in our everyday world. I decided to choose the scene where Arwen summons the water horses (also, how awesome was that scene? Seriously) because I think it really does speak to the unconscious (Arwen needed help, the spirits of Bruinen gave it to her) and the effects of the mysterious in the world of Middle Earth.
