Seriously, is it too early to file a complaint for a near-unusable interface?
Anyway, rant aside, managed to catch up on the Clone Wars episode "Sabotage".
It just...wow, it really feels like I just came home again. First off, the opening action scene was magnificent, and the animation was just as awesome -- especially the "holy shit" inducing sight of a *whole colony* of buzzdroids underneath the wing of Anakin's fighter. Not to mention Ahsoka jumping in and saving the day again. Seriously, I love these two, I really do. I love Ahsoka on her own as well, but I also love her partnership with Anakin because they work so well together. I know standout scenes include the banter between them during the battle, as well as the little touches (pun unintentional) like Anakin putting a hand on her shoulder when Ahsoka's reacting to the news of the Temple bombing.
Honestly, the two of them as individuals also really shone in this episode, such as Ahsoka questioning some of the people who witnessed the bombing, and offering them some support and compassion as well. And though it went wrong later, Anakin offering Letta, the wife of the bomber (later revealed to be sort of an unwilling participant), some solace and some compassion -- I think part of it might be helped by the fact that technically...well, he's married also. (And on a side-note, one of the only real gripes I have with this episode? I really just want Anakin to come home and snuggle Padme or something. And Padme to snuggle Anakin) At the same time, though, it's shown that one shouldn't piss them off either -- otherwise...they won't really kill you, but they won't be easy on you either.
I think it also helps that a lot of the Jedi in the episode were written very realistically. They actually acted like how real beings would react in a situation like that. And unlike in "Shades of Reason" where I felt almost nothing at the attack on Mandalore (probably because the plan was already so convoluted that I was busier shaking my head in confusion, really), I actually felt a sense of dread when people were protesting outside the Temple, because it had context, it had weight. It also sort of resonated if only because it felt like a tale of real people in a crisis losing their heads. (With a healthy dose of Does This Remind You Of Anything as well) And I think another good point was at least Obi-Wan not acting like a jerk anywhere during the episode, which was another bonus. Sort of a "No making catty comments about, say, Anakin or Ahsoka lacking some sort of intelligence just because their search is difficult. Life is good." (Although on a sidenote, I would have also liked to see Anakin consoling him in regards to Satine. Seriously) I also really liked the droid companion that Anakin and Ahsoka were working with; he was really cute. And really helpful.
And the twist at the end -- in regards to Letta putting nanodroids in her husband's food to make him into a literal ticking timebomb * -- was really chilling, all the moreso because I can see something similar happening in real life. A variant, at least. And it's one of those things that, while well-done, makes me wonder how the hell it got past the radar. Then again, I suppose CLONE WARS has allowed worse...
And the ending was really good too. A bit of foreboding, what with Mace referencing the fact that the Clone Wars are getting increasingly unpopular amongst the people, but also a bit of hope, with Anakin reassuring Ahsoka that for every Jedi who goes bad, there are plenty of good Jedi to look up to. I mean, honestly...I'll say I've kind of missed this. It kind of makes me feel like I've come home. Charles Murray wrote this episode, and he appears to be sort of an unknown as far as I'm concerned. I just hope that the rest of the episodes he writes will be as awesome as this one.
* Seriously, Letta, they tried a variant of the "Why am I ticking" in TORCHWOOD: CHILDREN OF EARTH. It didn't work.
So, overall? Amazing. Definitely recommended. (Although I'm not looking forward to what happens to Ahsoka next time...oh dear...)
