...and I really, really loved it! :D Really emotionally draining, of course, but really good nonetheless.

Good things:

-The Kobiyashi Maru thing at the beginning of the movie. That was just really, really well-done -- and a really good "holy shit" moment to open the movie, IMHO.

-I loved how the movie explored how Kirk felt in regards to getting older and whatnot.

-The buildup with Chekov finding Khan's prison. I know that I was like, "Oh shit, Chekov, get out of there!" Only for Chekov to get captured by Khan's men. And the music -- that really gave me chills as well.

-Ricardo Montalbán fucking owned as Khan. Seriously. Highlights definitely include his death scene (I'll admit, I felt almost sorry for him even after being so scared of him. That's how you make a great villain exit, I think), his reaction to Joachim's death (seriously, ow), and...honestly, a lot more. I can definitely see why Khan is one of the most acclaimed villains in Star Trek, I really do. Not to mention, the scenes with him relentlessly hunting Kirk -- it's not exactly an overt sort of fear, but it's there nonetheless. There's something kind of frightening about someone who's so singlemindedly fixated on vengeance, and I think it really shows there.

-Khan putting those Ceti eels in Chekov's ear. Ugh... *Shudders* And later, Kirk finding the mangled bodies of Regula One's crew. That reassurance he gave Chekov was much needed, IMHO -- the poor man. And later, the brainwashed Terrell turning his phaser on himself instead of killing Kirk as Khan commanded

+ And earlier, Khan describing the Ceti eels' effects: when they're just born, they mostly mind control you. Then they get older and start driving you mad, and then, finally, you die. (Mostly summing up) To think that happened to Khan's wife while he was in exile...goddamn. I mean, Khan's still kind of a bastard in this film, but I still feel sorry for him, at least. That's really what makes some of the most powerful villains work for me -- hating and pitying them at the same time. I at least hope to capture that in my writing in the future.

-The camaraderie between the crew.

-While the "KHAAAAAAAN" part was kind of ruined for me thanks to Memetic Mutation, the scene with Khan outlining exactly what he plans to do to Kirk (basically, maroon him so he can experience what Khan's experienced -- and from Khan's point of view, why not?) is still pretty chilling. Especially in regards to Ricardo Montalbán's performance.

-The death of Scotty's nephew. Just...seriously, ow.

-The argument between Spock and McCoy before Spock goes to sacrifice himself.

-Spock's death. No, I didn't cry, but I came close. Especially in regards to Kirk's reaction.

-The ending, what with the ship carrying Spock's body landing on the planet of Genesis.

-David saying that he's very proud to be Kirk's son, especially considering the troubled relationship between the two in the beginning.

Bad things:

-If I recall correctly, Chekov wasn't there when "Space Seed" (the original story with Khan) was broadcast. So how on Earth does Khan know him? I know that Chekov's actor, Walter Koenig, had a pretty good joke about Khan knowing Chekov from Chekov taking too long in a bathroom that Khan wanted to use. XD I guess I should file that up to an "It just bugs me" thing, because otherwise, it was a great scene.

So overall? Excellent movie. I can definitely see why it was so well-received and still is. I'm still getting into the old STAR TREK, but I have to say...this is a pretty good start. :)
