Since a number of US newspapers have refused to republish the latest Doonesbury cartoon strip which highlights the way Republicans are attempting to undermine a woman's right to choose, I feel it's important to make sure the message still gets across.
The shaming room awaits.

The shaming room awaits.

Date: 2012-03-14 10:13 pm (UTC)Anyone notice the red "A" on the clipboard?
It's from the Scarlet Letter, and old classic about shaming of a woman who has a child out of "wedlock." She has to wear this big red A for adulteress on her clothes.

Date: 2012-03-14 10:27 pm (UTC)And yeah... *Sighs* It doesn't help that there are people who actually think Sandra Fluke's a hypocrite. Yeah, because apparently, wanting the government to fund birth control makes you a hypocrite. /sarcasm. You fail logic forever, hardcore conservatives! (Sorry, had to rant)
But honestly, I'm personally glad they're dropping Limbaugh. He's been around too long.

Date: 2012-03-14 10:31 pm (UTC)It's way past time for Rush to go. Srsly. He's boring when he isn't being an ass.
It's nothing to do with Sandra Fluke, people. It's about millions of women depending on birth control gotten through their job insurance to keep from getting pregnant. Do they want a whole bunch of unwanted pregnancies that will disrupt lives?
Warning: Rant.
Date: 2012-03-14 10:49 pm (UTC)You're very welcome. :)
And yeah. *Sighs* It really is time for Rush to go. It doesn't help that besides the whole Abu Ghraib thing, he's also made some borderline anti-Semitic comments in the past. And then there was the whole "Barack the Magic Negro" thing, and getting into hot water for the whole Michael J. Fox thing, and then there was his comments on Haiti... *Sighs* The guy really should have gotten pulled earlier -- I can imagine the Sandra Fluke controversy was the straw that broke the camel's back.
And you're definitely right, regarding the unwanted pregnancies. Not to mention some people who might take it for medical reasons -- or need to take it for medical reasons, as Sandra Fluke pointed out about her friend. Not to mention some people actually believe Rush's comment about the whole "having so much sex she can't afford her own birth control" thing -- NO, RUSH, NO. YOU ARE STUPID. (Sorry about the Capslock) And the people who actually believe this are even stupider. (But then again, this is the same society where some people try to justify Chris Brown beating his then-girlfriend Rihanna, so... :/)
*Sighs*
Sorry if I sounded really bitchy saying this; let's just say the sooner we're out of March (a.k.a. Misogyny Month), the better. (And honestly, if 2012 continues on *without* the Republicans trying new ways to infringe on our rights, that would be a good bonus, I say)
Re: Warning: Rant.
Date: 2012-03-14 10:59 pm (UTC)We're talking about people who work, and pay their part for the insurance, this isn't freeloading or whatever Republicans moan about. Besides, it makes sense that birth control be available for preventing more unwanted children that require government assistance, something else Republicans whine about while spending billions on a non-stop war. Oh, that's right, we have to be celebate. The only people who are allowed to have sex are heteros married to each other. Wait a minute. Married het women are among those who get birth control through their job insurance.
What friggin brilliance/ sarcasm.
There is no end in sight with this fail!
*hugs* don't be sorry. Hopefully shit like this will convince swing voters to avoid the Republicans if they are so intent on micromanaging sex lives and reproduction rights.
Re: Warning: Rant.
Date: 2012-03-14 11:16 pm (UTC)And yeah...*sighs* Strong in the logic department, the hardcore conservatives are not.
And thanks. *Hugs back* *Sighs* I definitely hope that's the case -- and that we get some friendlier skies, so to speak, in April. (Although near the end of April is the National Protest Against The War On Women, so that's good. At least, it's good to see people taking action)
Also there's the fact that Limbaugh was defending war criminal Joseph Kony, which...doesn't help his case: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/larry-womack/yes-rush-limbaugh-even-to_b_1328583.html. *Sighs* Call me crazy, but it really doesn't help his case. :/
* And he's not alone in this fight either; Peter Gabriel, the band Rush, Killer Mike and Bun B also sent him some cease and desist letters. Pretty glorious, I must say, the extent of the backlash. Plus, I know some of the Republicans such as Ron Paul have called him out on his shit (from what I can gather) so...there's still hope. :)
Re: Warning: Rant.
Date: 2012-03-15 12:04 am (UTC)Rush's days are numbered.

Seriously, the sooner we're out of Misogyny Month, the better. (Or at least heading for some friendlier skies...)
