...I've decided to gank something from fandom_memes. :)

FANDOM CONVERSION MEME!

Post the name of one of your fandoms (TV show, movie, book series, musician, whatever). People in that fandom can respond with reasons why it's awesome. For instance, if someone (and by "someone", I mean me, obviously) posts "LOST", LOST fans can reply to that comment saying, "It has awesome characters," or "YOU SHOULD ALL WATCH IT 'COS SAWYER IS HOT". There's no limit to how many comments you can make in one thread. You can post funny screencaps, quotes, links to fic, whatever. Just give any reason why people should join the fandom.

However, if you're not in that fandom (again, we'll use LOST as an example), you can ask questions about it. "What's the Dharma Initiative?" "Doesn't that show have a hobbit in it?" "What's up with that polar bear?" Fans can respond to those questions as seriously or funny as they want to be. This is really a meme to encourage people to support their fandom and bring more fans to it. Try not to post a fandom name twice, because long threads are awesome.

As always, remember to pimp, participate, and do other things that start with a "P".

The KOTOR games. :) (KOTOR I and KOTOR II, pre-retcon. ^__^)

People are no longer active in the fandom :(

How can such sheer awesomeness be so easily forgotten??

At the risk of sounding dumb, I just don't get the appeal of games in general. So...uhm...perhaps you can persuade me ;)

Thanks!!!

It's so sad, I've been poking around the other KOTOR comms and they all seem to die off around 2008 when it was announced KOTOR III wasn't going to be released. And whoever is there is squeeing this MMORG.
It's like LucasArts killed KOTOR.

Thanks!! Yeah, I like how he came out.

Okay then. *Takes a deep breath* I'll admit, I'm not usually a gamer either, but I think the appeal of the games (KOTOR II, more specifically) is definitely whenever I've had a bad day (really bad Internet wank, for example) and just going through the Jekk'Jekk Tarr bar and tearing up mooks with Force Sight (you can see the alignments of other characters. :). And then there's the characters. You've got a sarcastic, Han-Solo-esque Sith Operative in the sequel, and...Kreia. Just Kreia. She seems like the ordinary mentor, before turning out to be (Spoiler alert!) the true villain of the game. And even then, the game takes you down Mindfuck Lane...

She doesn't want to take over the galaxy, like most villains. If anything, she wants to destroy the Force itself. Sort of a Rage Against The Heavens thing. She hates the Force mostly because it would use other people to achieve its own ends (even though she's been basically doing the same thing throughout the game. Irony, I say. :P), and grew attached to the main character in the first place because he/she ended up inadvertently creating a Force Wound (it was sort of that or losing the war against the Mandalorians that wanted to destroy the Republic) that could thwart the Force once and for all -- or so she thinks. If you take the prequels into account, Kreia's motivations become all the more frightening. Chris Avellone, who wrote the sequel, said explicitly that Kreia was basically his way of expressing discontent with the Star Wars universe (especially how the Jedi acted), and it really comes through in a lot of what she says. You as the player character, however, have the option to correct her and say that there is still good in this galaxy, and it's worth fighting for. (Even if it costs you influence points with her. ;-)

*Sighs* And that's just a sample of what the sequel has to offer. I mostly went with that because...I played it first. :) #Hopes she made sense, at least. :)

-- I understand the appeal of this story --- but I rarely have half an hour to myself and must ask: can anything be accomplished in half an hour increments in a game? Most gamers I've observed have quite a lot of free time to play.

Permission to say I love your icon, BTW? :)

And yeah...I think it's possible. With self-discipline. :)

Hmmm... Yeah, I suppose that made sense. I've been thinking of making an exception and try out the SW related games - mainly because it is SW.

Trouble is that game prices in Brazil are just not appealing at all :(((

You know, I actually had thought of starting with The Force Unleashed, but then I found out I'll have to fight Vader in it. This is so silly, but...well, I'm not sure I can do that. *sighs*
From: [identity profile] darth-eldritch.livejournal.com
I don't have that much free time myself. I'm away at least 10-12+ hours a day from my home for work alone, and that doesn't include the time needed for chores, etc, taking care of my kid.

We first played the games in the evening after a long commute and doing stuff, and often it's multitasking, such as cooking and doing stuff on the computer while playing the game. So I do tend to play it in short increments.

Seriously, with what you pay for ONE game in Brazil, you could buy three or four in the U.S. It's no cool :(

Oh... you do? I feel better, then :)

I never did finish Force Unleashed. Yeah, it seems like it gets rough with Vader.
But the very first part of it lets you play Vader, and that is AWESOME. Total headrush as you (as Darth Vader) tear through Wookiee villages on Kashyyyk and kick serious Jedi butt with one Jedi Master. Vader is very powerful there.

I also love playing Anakin in the game version of Revenge of the Sith.

I'm thinking that if other players are involved, like online *is unsure of terminology* they'd lose patience, as they have things going on at their end, too.

Thanks, I'm glad you like it -- iconmaking, such darn fun --

Yeah, a friend told me that and made me feel a lot better and re-reconsider ;) Playing as Vader sounds awesome, really! I told my friend I'd probably only play the first part of the game :D

About ROTS, I confess I'm sort of put off by the idea of having Anakin use Force Lightning :\
From: [identity profile] darth-eldritch.livejournal.com
You're welcome!

For the sake of story, I find it better to take the game slowly to absorb it. I don't understand people who want to race through the game to see how fast they can beat it.

You're very welcome! :D #Adores icon making as well. ^__^

Sounds like a good plan. :)

And yeah, regarding ROTS...Force Lightning's pretty cool, but becomes a Harsher in Hindsight moment considering the ending scene of ROTJ. :/
(Or...Bittersweet in Hindsight? :)

As I understand it you have a choice to not fight Vader, but I don't know for sure and how it's supposed to work out.

I highly recommend that first part, it's totally cool as the fighting style does reflect Vader's character as seen in the movies.

*completely forgot that Force Lightning bit. I think I only played the saber styles, and totally loved beating the snot out of Mace Windu, although Dooku was hard*

Hmm, my gaming experience is pretty much limited to a/playing MarioKart and a bit of Animal Crossings (? title) and b/watching others play Halo and some battle games. I did enjoy going to our local peewee golf course and arcade and playing Marvel Capcom games. It was fun to be Ryu or Dharma (?) the guy with the long arms. I think I like standing up stuff better than sitting down stuff; maybe a game could be fastened to a stationary exercise bike, ha!
From: [identity profile] ladyhadhafang.livejournal.com
First off, that icon's win. Seriously. :3

And all I can say about the game-being-fastened-to-a-stationary-exercise-bike is...I really like that idea. Oh yes. :)

Hey, that's an idea! There's some company that's already put a gameboy on a sewing machine.

I don't think it did very well, though...

But the exercise bike should work because it's not like you're trying to focus on anything else!
