Title: Children of the Night
Summary: Ben and Poe grow up in the Sith Eternal.
Prompt: The Devil’s Rejects
Disclaimer: I own nothing.
It’s when Poe Dameron is three years old that the Sith Eternal bring a new recruit into his life.
Of course, this is nothing new. After all, the Sith Eternal bring new recruits into Exegol whenever they can. Poe is too young to really understand what that all means; to him, it’s an opportunity to make new friends, which is always nice.
It’s always nice to make new friends.
The baby is chubby, with curly black hair that falls around his face in waves, and even as Poe looks at his mama (who’s been in the Sith Eternal since she was a little girl, much like he has), he asks, “What’s his name?”
“His name’s Ben.” The answer doesn’t come from his mother, but the hooded courier in black who’ll serve as Ben’s mother figure. Poe hopes that she’ll take care of Ben; after all, Ben deserves a good mama.
Everyone deserves a good mama, in Poe’s opinion.
***
Their god, of sorts, is a frightening figure hooked up to wires and a throne. Poe’s scared of him, and Mama’s been starting to have her doubts about him too. She tries to comfort Poe and herself by telling them that they’re doing the right thing. “People are suffering,” she said to Poe once. “People are dying. The Sith Eternal just want to stop suffering.”
Mama doesn’t always make sense, not really, but she makes sense here, at least.
Palpatine speaks, his voice rumbling, booming. “Another fine addition has been welcomed into our midst. The son of Han Solo and Leia Organa.”
“They’re making a mistake,” Poe vaguely hears his father whisper to his mother. “They’ll rain death and destruction on us all, even the children.”
"Oh, akisi, I would never allow that to happen,” Shara says. “I would guard Poe, and everyone here, with my life.”
Palpatine’s still talking, oblivious to Shara and Kes’ distress. Do all these leaders like talking? "He will make a fine warrior among us,” he ends, “And his turning will mark a victory in the story of Rebellion.”
The Sith Eternal murmur assent. Except Kes and Shara, who look anxious, and Poe, who cradles Ben in his arms.
“Hey, Ben,” Poe says. “I’m Poe, and I promise I’m never gonna let anything bad happen to ya. Okay?”
He’s only three, but he’d do anything to keep that promise.
