Title: More Than He Knows
Summary: What if Poe was born atop a Sith Temple, and he and Ben shared a Dyad?
Prompt: Magical / Soul bond
Disclaimer: I own nothing.
One benefit of the dyad was that in a way, Ben found, he could still communicate with Poe on Kijimi, even though they were miles away. It wasn’t quite the same — he needed Poe here, he needed to feel his physical presence there, as prominently as anything. His presence in the Force, like the brightest of sunlight. Ben doubted that he could quite describe it — or the emptiness that he felt with Poe having gone away.
It didn’t feel right. But he could see Poe’s image. They could touch, pass objects through the Dyad, they could laugh together. He could see Poe, just for a while.
It was one day that the Dyad activated while Poe was…somewhere on Kijimi. Ben wished the Dyad could at least show him Poe’s surroundings, so he had some degree of context.
But Poe said, “Ben…I don’t have anywhere to go.”
“What do you mean? What happened?”
Poe laughed, if miserably. “I didn’t kill Zorii’s mom. Zorii…she let me go. That’s one kindness out of all that.”
Ben swallowed. He didn’t like how vulnerable Poe looked, how very afraid. They had been bonded together from the start — a result of Poe’s birth atop that Sith Temple. It was something that had contributed to Poe’s strained relationship with his father prior to running away to Kijimi. That sort of stunned feeling, like how-could-I-be-linked-to-evil-people?
Poe wasn’t evil though, Ben thought. Poe was the kindest, gentlest man Ben knew — only Tai came close. And Tai was more like Ben’s brother.
“You did the right thing,” Ben said. “You’re not a bad person.”
“I dunno; I’m feeling pretty lousy right now…”
“You could come home,” Ben said. “I mean…I missed you. I can’t think of anyone who didn’t miss you.”
Poe smiled, just then. “I missed you too, Ben. Don’t worry; I’m coming back as soon as I can. I just…need to see Dad. He deserves to see me.”
“Go to him,” Ben said. “If he’s worth being called ‘Dad’, he’ll still love you.”
Poe’s smile faded, if only a little. “I hope so.” His smile reappeared if only briefly. “I’ll see you.”
“Yeah. See you.”
The Dyad faded. Ben smiled if faintly despite himself.
He missed Poe, more than he thought, more than he knew.
