Title: What’s Left
Summary: Leia gives Poe Ben’s calligraphy set.
Prompt: Possession
Leia’s managed to at least extract Ben’s broken calligraphy set from the wreckage of Ben’s hut, just to give to Poe. “It feels right,” she says. “I should throw it out, get rid of it, but I just can’t.”
The calligraphy pens are broken. The ink has splattered the box like bloodstains in black, blue, red, and other colors. Like really macabre paint splatters. The metal’s been crushed.
It’s a mess. It’s a shadow of what it used to be. Poe’s still reminded of Ben, hunched over his desk and writing (Ben doesn’t scribble. Didn’t, Poe corrects himself), jotting down Jedi insights that struck him. Ben was always a chronicler.
Leia continues. “He must have brought the hut down and crushed the set. Before...leaving.”
It doesn’t feel right. Not at all. Why would Ben just randomly attack his uncle, like Luke claimed he did? Ben was loyal to Luke, even standing up for him when Ren made fun of him, apparently. He was loyal to the Order, loyal to his uncle.
This doesn’t feel real.
“Thank you, Leia. For this,” Poe manages to say. It’s the least he can say, all things considered. That Leia gave this to him.
He can’t repair it, he knows that much. But he knows, at least, that he can keep it close until Ben comes back.
