He didn’t really need the restraints on Poe’s wrists. Not really. Not while he was here. It would have been easy, he thought, to just freeze Poe in place or cut him down, but he found that he couldn’t do either of those things no matter how much Snoke would want him to.
It wouldn’t work.
He could have unsnapped the restraints, right then and there. Let Poe go. He ought to, he thought. He ought to just let him fly. It would be better this way.
And you think of it just now? Snoke sneered in his mind as Kylo entered the room. Steel blue shadows that gave an eerie effect. Poe, being shrouded in darkness, the blood on his lower lip seeming accentuated.
Are you really so selective, so indecisive, so selfish? Skywalker lives. And while he lives, our enemies have hope...
Kylo hated Snoke then. Hated him for seeming to live everywhere, in every corner of his mind. Like Snoke had invaded him, conquered him. He almost hated Poe too, being free and loved and perfectly happy without him —
Or at least, he tried. He’d have a right to hate him, he thought. For being loved where Kylo was despised and forgotten by his own family. Surrounded by friends where Kylo was alone. It would have been easy for Snoke to build up this idea of Poe as the villain, as Kylo’s foil: beautiful, loved. And it would have been easy for Snoke to make it look like Kylo should hate Poe.
But Kylo doubted he ever could. Poe was, simply, everything to him.
“You took your sweet time,” Poe said wryly, and Kylo wondered if he should take the mask off. Would it — no. Better to make sure Poe saw a monster, and only a monster, rather than someone who loved him.
“I know.”
Kylo could swear that he was tired throughout his bones.
