The Force Awakens — First got into it when I was going through some rough stuff and I just fell in love with the characters, the emotion in there, and the compassion. (Even Kylo gets his moments, believe it or not!) Back then, I was mostly seeing Star Wars as an obligation and fully intended to leave fandom after seeing TFA, but TFA definitely dragged me back in. I think it was the scene with Finn and Poe stealing a goddamn TIE fighter that made me start thinking, “Goddamn, this movie is awesome”, and the compassion in it sealed my fate as a TFA fan. Maybe I’m not a “true” Star Wars fan because I prefer TFA over even the other eight films, but you know what? I’m fine with that.
Doctor Who — Influenced a ton of my writing, again, because of the compassion there. There’s a wonderful scene in “Last of the Time Lords” where the Master is cowering from the Doctor, and the Doctor embraces and forgives him. It’s a genuinely touching moment, and something we don’t often see in media. Moffat’s Doctor Who isn’t bad, but the compassion in RTD’s Doctor Who made it a favorite of mine. In a way, some of my better qualities and influences come from watching this show.
Star Wars in general — Because it introduced me to great characters, great stories, beautiful worlds, and influenced my writing definitely for the better.

I do like the RTD Doctors for being more willing to apologize and feel compassion. Eleven is good, though.
