Top Five Villains

[identity profile] ladyhadhafang.livejournal.com 2014-10-17 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
1. Catwoman, Batman Returns. Michelle Pfeiffer was awesome in the role.

2. Kreia from KOTOR II. Because she's just an amazingly complex character.

3. Atris from KOTOR II. Because she's, again, a very complex character.

4. Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty. Maleficent from the recent film is great too, but I don't know if she really counts as a villain. Anti-Villain, maybe.

5. Ursula from The Little Mermaid. Because she is just awesome.

Yeah, I think that even people who don’t like “Batman Returns” have to admit that Pfeiffer knocked it out of the park.

/Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty./

I haven’t seen the Angelina Jolie film version yet, but yes, the original Maleficent is definitely awesome. ^^

/Ursula from The Little Mermaid. Because she is just awesome./

I’m surprised that her human form, Vanessa, isn’t more popular or doesn’t get that much attention.

God, yes. She owned that role.

And heck yes. The original Maleficent definitely made quite the impact on me when I was a kid -- I remember originally seeing the transforming-into-a-dragon scene in the film and going, "Oh, heck yes, this is so awesome!" The new movie takes a lot of liberties with the story (some which bothered me, like the fairies' portrayal) but it's still really entertaining.

And yes, her human form, Vanessa, is great too. I mean, she nearly would have won too if Scuttle and the others hadn't interfered.

Top Five That I Think Deserved Better Endings

[identity profile] ladyhadhafang.livejournal.com 2014-10-17 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
1. The Jedi Exile/Meetra Surik from KOTOR II. I guess it doesn't help that her arc really left an impression on me ever since I was no more than a middle schooler, but I hated how she was just casually killed off like that in the REVAN novel. I mean, poor girl. And what I read about how the book treated her on Tumblr just makes me angrier. I mean, I'm certain some may not agree, but even hearing about it just broke my heart.

2. Jamie Lloyd from the Halloween franchise. I mean, what a horrible ending to a really great character.

3. Laurie Strode, also from the Halloween franchise. Same with Jamie.

4. Donna Noble. Because it just plain sucked how she was memory-wiped like that. I know it was to save her life, but it still royally sucked.

5. Rose Tyler. Not as bad as the others on the list, but her ending did kind of suck.

Top Five I Think Deserved Better Love Interests (Warning For Brief Discussion Of Triggering Content)

[identity profile] ladyhadhafang.livejournal.com 2014-10-17 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I admit that's going to be difficult because I haven't read much romantic stuff lately, or watched it, etc. And most of the bad love interests I've run across usually redeem themselves later. So I'm limiting myself to those who are just "Nope" all around.

1. Ana Steele. Seriously.

2. Nora Gray.

3. Jarael from the KOTOR comics. Especially with Alek and his behavior towards her that is basically sexual harassment. Grabbing her, not listening to her protests, etc.

4. Vestara Khai from Fate of the Jedi.

5. Hermione. Ron's a great character, but I don't think she and him go well together.

Top Five I Want To Rescue From Their Horrible Narratives

[identity profile] ladyhadhafang.livejournal.com 2014-10-17 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
1. Ana Steele.

2. Nora Gray.

3. Vestara Khai.

4. Jedi Exile/Meetra Surik (but only in the REVAN novel/The Old Republic MMO. KOTOR II had its issues, mostly relating to it being rushed for a Christmas release, but how it handled her story and character wasn't one of them).

5. Jamie Lloyd. Doesn't help that her story is just heartbreaking all around.

3. Fair enough on Alek/Malak - but, erm, then again, he's not Jarael's primary love interest; in fact I never thought of him as a love interest at all.

I'm also interested that you listed Jarael as in need of better writing/developing downthread. I love the KotOR comics, and while there were certainly aspects of the way it depicted Jarael I found off-putting (such as her cameo in the War mini-series), I don't recall finding her presentation horrible - far from it.

Oh, I'd also be interested to know about #6 and #1.

Oh. Well, that's good. I guess I just got upset over stuff I heard, but...well, good to hear. And good to know that Jarael's generally handled well.

As for 1...well, keep in mind that I could be wrong about this, but from some stuff I heard, I sort of thought that Ana's love interest, Christian, wasn't a very good one (to say the least). I mean, it's not really the BDSM subject at all; it's just that he doesn't seem to treat her very well. Sort of...pretty badly, actually. And 6...well, Hermione and Ron aren't as bad as, say, the first example, but I admit that while Ron's a good character, great even, he and Hermione always seemed to be at each others' throats. They do have their moments, of course, but I admit that I never quite shipped them. And I'm not really averse to stuff like that either, but they didn't exactly seem to work together. *Hopes this all made sense*

/3. Laurie Strode, also from the Halloween franchise. Same with Jamie./

Oh, yeah, she [SPOILERS] winds up dead, doesn’t she? I don’t get why writers kill off characters when their actors don’t want to play them anymore. Either get new actors to play the characters (hey, it worked with Michael Gambon for Dumbledore!) or come up with another reason for why that character’s not in the TV show/movie.

/4. Donna Noble. Because it just plain sucked how she was memory-wiped like that. I know it was to save her life, but it still royally sucked./

Oh, yeah, I heard that there was a lot of fan controversy about that.

3. Yeah, pretty much this. Seriously.

4. Yeah, a lot of the fanbase was furious. I still love "Journey's End", but it's this one thing I wish didn't happen. Especially considering Donna's character development (thing about Donna is that she was incredibly well-written: complex and honestly, really funny and caring. And her friendship with the Doctor was written very well *), and how, in the end, she doesn't even get to remember any of what she accomplished and achieved, where she traveled, etc. I mean...yeah, it sucks.

* And I liked her intro episode as well. I know some people didn't like her when she first appeared, but I can understand where she's coming from; I mean, she just got sucked into the TARDIS on her wedding day. I think anyone would be freaked out. And she definitely gets softer moments throughout the episode, like her talk on the rooftop with the Doctor, and the ending. And...yeah, sorry for rambling like that.
