Obi Wan Kenobi

[identity profile] ladyhadhafang.livejournal.com 2012-07-11 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Why I like him: He's snarky, he's kind, he's devoted to duty -- he's just overall very likeable.

Why I don’t: I don't like how he manipulated Luke against Vader, and left Anakin to burn to death. I'm slowly beginning to understand why he did what he did, but it's not always easy. (Please don't kill me, Obi-Wan fans)

Favorite episode: Episode I and III.

Favorite scene: His farewell to Anakin, in Episode III. Even if it's Harsher In Hindsight.

Favorite line: "We have a job to do, Anakin; try not to upset him." (Regarding Grievous) Seriously, Obi-Wan gets some of the best snarky lines. :)

Favorite outfit: His Jedi robes. :)

OTP: Obi-Wan/Sabe.

Brotp (or Sisotp depending on the character. Or Platonic Life Partners OTP. Or Heterosexual Life Partners OTP. Whatever. :): Obi-Wan/Anakin (although I can see them in the more slashy sense as well).

Head Canon: That had he and Anakin not come to blows in ROTS, he would have made a pretty awesome uncle to Luke and Leia.

Unpopular opinion: I'm not really a big fan of Obidala (I can see where it would go if done right, however).

A wish: That he and Anakin hadn't come to blows in ROTS.

An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: I *really* don't want a repeat of the "Deception" arc in CLONE WARS. Seriously.

5 words to best describe them: Kind, snarky, dutiful, brave, friendly.

Why I Like Her: Her bravery and compassion.

Why I Don't: Hmmm...can't say there's anything I really dislike about her. Seriously.

Favorite Episode: Probably Episode I or Episode III.

Favorite Scene: Oh God, so many...But one of my favorites is the Battle of Naboo in TPM. And in ROTS, the "Hold me" scene.

Favorite Line: "I was not elected to watch my people suffer and die while you discuss this invasion in a committee!"

Favorite Outfit: The meadow picnic gown.

OTP: Anakin/Padme

Brotp/SisTp/Platonic Life Partners/Heterosexual Life Partners: Her and Bail, or her and Obi-Wan.

Head Canon: I can definitely picture her and Anakin visiting her family on Naboo occasionally, while they were still married. When there was time. (Not sure about the whole "hidden marriage" thing yet, or whether or not she'd hide it from her family. They'd probably figure it out eventually)

Unpopular opinion: I don't think she's weak for losing the will to live. Seriously, I don't.

A wish: That she had survived Episode III and probably went on to fight in the Resistance. Resistance Fighter Padme would be pretty cool.

An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: I don't think anything bad will happen. She's in good hands.

5 words to best describe her: Devoted to duty, compassionate, kind, loving, friendly.

Thank you very much! :)

I like Padme, too. She's strong and devoted and intelligent. Im my headcanon, she'd become the Supreme Chancellor and rule the Republic after Palpatine's death :)

(Going off -- mostly -- new series Master. With occasional forays into old series/TV Movie Master)

1. Why I like them: Well, first off, forcewatcher is going to disagree heavily with me on this one (we actually got into a bit of a debate about it) but John Simm's rather OTT performance as the Master. First off, OTT is pretty much the Master's wheelhouse (amongst others), and second off, it kind of makes the Master scarier. There's nothing really more unsettling than him being funny one moment and the next moment he's committing some sort of atrocity. Add the fact that he was apparently made to resemble the Tenth Doctor in actions and mannerisms, and becomes even more unsettling. It's sort of like who the Doctor would become if he didn't have scruples/a common sense of morality -- which is even played up somewhat in "The Waters of Mars".

Not to mention, the writers try and give him a more pitiable side, what with (and I have to warn for spoilers, just in case) the Time Lords actually retroactively messing with his mind when he was a kid -- basically planting a sort of drumbeat noise in his head that slowly drove him insane so they could find a way to escape a war that *they* started. Not to mention, some of the softer moments they give him in the "End of Time" two-parter -- in a way, he still cares about the Doctor. Which kind of makes him even scarier than if he was just a one-dimensional villain. Hell, his relationship with the Doctor is pretty fascinating.

(And now that I've most likely invited someone to come over and rebut me, let's continue. :)

2. Why I don’t: Well, for all I like him, there are areas where I feel the urge to smack him. (Basically, almost all of "Last of the Time Lords" for what he does to Martha Jones' family, as well as Jack Harkness. And...basically everyone)

3. Favorite episode: "The Sound of Drums" (that's pretty much the episode where the man was on a roll, to say the least), "Last of the Time Lords" (even if I did want to slap him in that episode -- still a sign they're doing it right, IMHO -- he had some pretty damn good moments. For example, dancing to the Scissor Sisters -- no, really. XD It's made of awesome. XD -- as well as, on a more tearjerking note, the Doctor ultimately forgiving him, even if it's not reciprocated, and his death later), and "The End of Time" (if only for us learning more about the Master. Also, the sort of Eviler Than Thou we get in Rassilon).

4. Favorite scene: From "The Sound of Drums", him releasing the Toclafane (his, um, flying minions. Let's say you don't want to know what they're made out of. Trust me. It'll give you nightmares) to Earth. It's terrifying, heartbreaking, and awesome at the same time. (With a bit of bleakly funny thrown into the mix -- it's the Master, after all) And from the same episode, his phone conversation with the Doctor. I just like the way the dynamic plays out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4GaDBlTVOw.

And from "Last of the Time Lords" -- hell, I think I'll say the last third or so of "Last of the Time Lords", but especially when the Doctor, after being revived (it's a long story) by the people of Earth, forgives him (skip to 4:53 for the most relevant part): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KdeF8eg8bIU.

And in "The End of Time", ultimately sacrificing himself (in a way) for the Doctor. And earlier, after the Doctor's been hurt, running over to him and making sure he's all right. And reminiscing about their childhood -- running through red grass on his father's estate calling to the sky.

About The Master, part two

[identity profile] ladyhadhafang.livejournal.com 2012-07-11 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
5. Favorite line: "Why don't we have a nice little chat while I tell you all about my plans and you can work out a way to stop me, I don't think!" (From his first appearance, in UTOPIA. Sadly haven't seen the episode yet -- I'm going in anachronic, whatever-strikes-my-fancy order, really -- but that line's pretty good)

6. Favorite outfit: The Prime Minister get-up. Also, Professor Yana's (let's say he's in disguise for a short period of time) clothes in "Utopia".

7. OTP: Doctor/Master. I just like how their dynamic plays out.

8. Brotp (or Sisotp depending on the character. Or Platonic Life Partners OTP. Or Heterosexual Life Partners OTP. Whatever. :): See above. If not in a more Foe Yay-ish way, I still like them. It helps that I have a bit of a soft spot for kinda-sorta-still-loves-the-Doctor Master, in whatever sense of the word.

9. Head Canon: I'd like to think that the drums didn't ultimately start taking their toll on his sanity until much later. They probably started off as a dull itch in the back of his mind before becoming more bothersome, to say the least. (That and perhaps there were other factors as well. I mean, there are still some pages missing in the Master's origin story. Nothing bad, just...some pages missing)

10. Unpopular opinion: Even rewatching the TV Movie, I've changed my position a bit on Eric Roberts' Master. True, there are some areas where he needs work, but he definitely had some shining moments in there too -- for example, correcting one of the Doctor's -- informal -- companions' grammar while he, disguised as a paramedic, is driving them into a trap. Also, his interactions with Chang Lee.

11. A wish: As much as I actually liked John Simm's Master, I think it would be equally cool if, say, Sean Bean or Gary Oldman played the Master. Or even Christopher Eccleston. Damn expensive actors, maybe, but...*shrugs* It would have been interesting to see.

12. An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: I don't think there's really anything to worry about.

13. 5 words to best describe them: Troubled, slightly crazy, childlike, vulnerable, misguided (especially in the "End of Time" two-parter, really).

Anakin Skywalker :)

[identity profile] ladyhadhafang.livejournal.com 2012-07-12 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
Why I like him: A lot of reasons, really. His humanity, his loyalty, his compassion, his courage, his sense of humor, his loving nature -- also, the fact that his journey to the Dark Side and eventual redemption is one of the most beautifully told stories in not only STAR WARS, but stories as a whole.

Why I don’t: Well, what he did to Padme on Mustafar was pretty bad. And the Order 66 thing, although I think it may have also been a blind loyalty to Palpatine as well as a desire to save Padme. It's more of, well, I don't like what he did, but in the end, I still pity him (if that makes any sense).

Favorite episode: Episode I to Episode III.

Favorite scene: Any scene with Padme. Also Order 66 (heartbreaking but wonderfully filmed!), and weeping after killing the Separatists. Also, in the empty Council chambers thinking of Padme. And his farewell to Obi-Wan.

Favorite line: "Compassion, which I would define as unconditional love, is essential to a Jedi's life. So one could say we are encouraged to love."

Favorite outfit: His Jedi robes in ROTS.

OTP: Anakin/Padme.

Brotp (or Sisotp depending on the character. Or Platonic Life Partners OTP. Or Heterosexual Life Partners OTP. Whatever. :): Anakin/Obi-Wan.

Head Canon: I can picture him trying to save Palpatine, in a sense, even if Padme's life wasn't at stake, one to avoid a repeat of INVISIBLE HAND, and two because of his prior affection for Palpatine. At least, I believe he would.

Unpopular opinion: I really don't get the trend in some fics where he becomes a Domestic Abuser. I really don't. (Call me crazy) Or a stalker.

A wish: That he'd gotten a happier ending. Because at the end of the day, he (and everyone else save Palpatine) deserved better. Seriously.

An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: I think he's in good hands.

5 words to best describe them: Brave, compassionate, hot-headed, cocky, loyal.
