That explains it. The first half of season 3, they held back, then pulled out all the stops starting with Nightsisters. Mortis is a bit out of the box, but I can't speak highly enough about it. The rest of that season is pure Star Wars. The Citadel trilogy sounds more like what you're looking for, for certain.
