Just watched TRON LEGACY

The movie's been pretty polarizing, I've heard, with some adoring it, and others...not so much. Me? I'm personally on the side who adored it. (And I'm not even a TRON fan! :D)
Good things:
-The characters were quite likeable. I especially liked Sam Flynn -- brave, impulsive, stuff like that. (What can I say? I love my reckless protagonists. ^__^)
-The music.
-The visuals were stunning. Complain about the film if you wish, but I think the filmmakers did an excellent job portraying the dystopian world that Clu had created. (Especially in the beginning when Sam's forced into the arena. My God...that chanting of the crowd was terrifying. )
-The plot was highly compelling.
- Clu. Seriously, Clu was awesome as a villain. His speech to the programs (a la Saruman in THE TWO TOWERS -- seriously, anyone else reminded a bit of that? :) gave me chills up my spine.
+ While we're on the subject, anyone find his advances towards Quorra in the scene when he's captured her really, really creepy? I mean, the moment he said, "Take her to the flight deck", I really got uncomfortable. I mean...fortunately, she escapes before Clu can hurt her, but...ugh. #Clu = Sick Bastard.
- Quorra. Seriously, she was made of win.
-The flashback scene when Tron pulls a You Shall Not Pass on Clu. Seriously, go Tron! :D
-The humor in it; for example, in the beginning when Sam hacks a computer system. That was great -- and a good set-up, IMHO, to Sam's later skills in the movie.
Nitpicks:
-As much as the movie kept me entertained, I'll admit I got a tad...confused at times. Especially regarding Zuse's changing allegiances, and when Tron (presumed dead) kidnaps Quorra and takes her to Clu.
-That one scene with the whole Standard Female Grab Area (sorry, it just bugs me) made me facepalm a bit. But I guess then again, considering the nature of the villains in the film...yeah. Possibly nitpicking. :)
Overall, great film so far. Thoughts? :)

I guess that made sense to me cause Clu'd brain washed Tron into believing he was Rinzler. So everything up until "I FIGHT FOR THE USERS!" *that was SO EPIC* he does as Rinzler, pawn of Clu and not Tron. And I'm assuming he takes her to Clu because Clu's got a fair hunch she's not your average program.
I loved this movie enough that I shelled out the extra 10 bucks for the Blu-ray, when I don't even have a machine that will play Blu-rays, so that one day I may watch all the glorious Special Features.
And HOMG YES THE MUSIC!!! I've got both the Original Soundtrack and the Tron: R3conf1gur3d, which is a bunch of remixed tracks. SO AWESOME. I listen to it on the way to work.
I think the thing that annoyed me was how very "The Dude" Kevin Flynn had become while stuck in The Grid. But I loved his little bad-as moment in the Club.
I really could just go on and on about this movie, so I'll quit while I'm ahead.

Date: 2011-04-27 03:02 am (UTC)Other than that, though, I thought it was a mediocre film (but of course, that's just me). My 3-D glasses made the film look darker, so the cool visual impact was diminished somewhat. It's not a terrible film, but I'm not planning on seeing it again.
As for the acting, one sentence kinda sums it up for me: "You're messing with my Zen thing, man". I mean, WHAT?

Date: 2011-04-27 04:05 pm (UTC)Yeah, I'll admit that was a little weird. (The Zen thing, that is. :) Overall, though, I think Jeff Bridges kicked a lot of ass. Especially as Clu. *Shudders*
