Title: Cold, Cold, Freezing, Freezing
Summary: Rey and Leia weren’t the only ones who formed Force connections with Ben.
Prompt: Cold
Disclaimer: I own nothing.
Author’s Notes: Based on a fan theory I had for TROKR suggesting Ben could form multiple Force connections.
Rey and Leia weren’t the only ones who had felt Ben’s fall over their bonds with them — they were hardly the only ones who Ben had bonded with.
Poe could remember it all too well. Ben had a talent for forming connections, though that had really only blossomed into being after he had become a Jedi. Poe was already familiar with what was going on, in the end. He could remember Ben’s presence in the back of his mind, not exactly a Light presence, but comforting in its own right.
Ben was gray, he was light with tendrils of darkness streaking through him like fractures, like crystal that had been disturbed, just enough.
***
The first time he felt that something was desperately wrong was when he had nightmares of a burning Temple. And then Ben had reached out to him, through their Bond.
I killed them, I killed them, I good as killed them… Those were the messages that Poe got in that moment even as Poe could all but feel Ben's anguish all but pressing against his skull.
“Ben,” Poe said — he still couldn’t say if he was good at this, but he could at least try. “Ben, shhhh. It’s okay. I’m here. I’m not going to leave you.”
Even as image after image besieged Poe’s mind, he reached out — dear stars, as best he could — if only to comfort Ben. Feeling his presence all too clearly, the fractures, the fault lines, seeming to get even bigger the more he reached out.
Ben said he had to go. Of course he did.
“Come with me,” Poe said softly.
I can’t. There’s no place in this galaxy that would mark me as worthy of redemption.
“Don’t say that, Ben,” Poe said. “Please."
I’ll come back for you. We’ll see each other again. I promise.
“Ben — !”
The presence vanished, and it felt like a big chunk of Poe’s consciousness had been all but torn out.
***
The cold only got worse when Poe felt Ben — it was like his Light had faded. Inverted, light fractures among darkness. Poe didn’t know what had happened, exactly. He only knew he would find Ben, whatever it took, and bring him home.
