Title: No Matter Where You Go

Summary: Rey checks in with Chewie about Finn after her second Force Bond conversation with Kylo.

Prompt: Monster

Disclaimer: I own nothing.

You are a monster.

Yes, I am.

Rey was more unsettled, admittedly, than she had any right to be even as the connection (whatever it was) faded away, replaced by emptiness. Emptiness, and the roar of the sea. She had never really seen rain or ocean before on Jakku, she would say that much. Even when she’d swooped in to Ach-To for the first time, she had to admit she was taken aback by the sheer vastness of the ocean, of the planet’s beauty.

It was still there, even as she looked over the ocean.

It was still raining. She’d need to get inside, at least somewhere, while she was waiting for the rain to die down.

Even as she got inside, she was still struck by her conversation with Kylo Ren — if she could even really call it a conversation. It was definitely more of a slinging of insults, with Kylo subtly making some insinuation as to Rey not knowing what happened —

Rey brushed it off. Already, she thought, who cared about what Kylo Ren had to say. It would probably be a lie, anyway. Some lie he was telling her just to make him feel sorry for her for some ridiculous reason…

She thought back to his breakdown on the bridge. I’m being torn apart. I want to be free of this pain. It had been something that had caught her off-guard, especially given that she hadn’t seen him express that kind of vulnerability (except for the interrogation room, and that had been an accident on her part) and she’d almost thought she’d seen a new side to him — except then, he’d killed his own father. Oh Rey, you and your hoping for things that’ll never happen…

Chewie looked over at her, grunted some concern.

“Never mind that, Chewie; I’m fine,” she said. “How’s Finn?”

“He’s recovered.”

“But that’s wonderful!” Rey exclaimed. “The back injuries…”

“They didn’t say,” Chewie said. “He’s…well enough to be up and about. Although he’s missing. They don’t know where he’s gone.”

“Oh. Oh, Ri’ia…”

All sorts of horrible images formed in Rey’s mind: Finn, being taken back to the First Order. What would they do to him? Force him to fight again? Would her Finn — no, he wasn’t her Finn. That wasn’t likely, not at all. He probably still saw her as the scavenger girl who’d gone with him on some sort of crazy adventure. Nothing more, nothing less.

"Chewie,” she said, “I have to go and find him.”

“You don’t know where he is, little sister. Besides, you have training to catch up on.”

That was true enough. Although so far, Master Skywalker’s lessons mostly seemed to be complaining. Mostly. Rey already dreaded what was coming next. Still, perhaps Master Skywalker knew what he was doing. Perhaps he had a plan.

“Finn doesn’t seem to be in any danger, though,” Chewie said. “The Resistance would tell you if he was. There’d be some sort of alert.”

Rey nodded. “Just keep me posted.”

And I’ll find you, Finn, she promised herself. If you’re in any sort of danger, or even if you’re not, I’ll find you.
